They'll be following the Police keeping tabs on some reprobates who've nicked a car or done some other mischief.

I've had them hovering over my house from time to time and they don't half make a din.

Aye, 'it' chased a lad on an off-road bike last week. He was trapped in a field down near Haydock flashes (Sankey Valley Nature Trail to the uninitiated). Several police cars and motorbikes parked at evey exit, he was riding up and down, round and round, like a goldfish in a bowl. Witnesses say 'it' kept flying close to him hoping to blow him off with the blade wind.
Anyroadup, they eventually caught him as he ran out of petrol!
A couple of tradesmen in my mate's woodyard said it was ridiculous waste of police time, a lad on a motorbike, doing no harm to anybody, laaaaike.
However, later, it turned out he'd stabbed someone before stealing the bike to escape on and the victim was in a bad road.
So, you never know!

They don't commandeer a helicopter for no reason as it costs a fortune, but "several" Police cars sounds just a little bit of over-kill.

At least they caught the little rat.

I thought there was 4 helicopters?
India 97, India 98, India 99 and Police 151 ?
They used to be kept at Blackpool, Barton and Howarden and were controlled from Police control centre in Haydock? Eh?

GM Police don't own or operate any helicopters, NPAS own and operate them and provide support to Police forces

National Police Air Service.

I can't be certain but GM Police used to own Sea King helicopters but were taken off them whenNAPS took control besides there is no need for anti submarine helicopters on the LL canal or air to surface missiles

The reason being?

I was reading that the average cost of each helicopter is over £3000 per hour this covers every thing from staff to maintenance with about £1000 per hour when in the air

O. C., The reason being is that anybody can put whatever they want on Wikipedia.
For instance, a Wiganer might put on, “the police helicopter is based in Wigan and is controlled from Wigan police headquarters in Wigan”. which would be wrong information, and Wikipedia is full of wrong information.

Fox Features, RAG OFF!

Peter. …. £3200 an hour, air or ground.

Actually, Tonker is right about Wikipedia. I've noticed a few things that have been totally off the mark, most especially with those AI explanations.

Tonker, I think the cost that Peter gave was when airborne, but I'm not positive. While it's on the ground it's doing nowt, so no fuel usage.

“Could you please break down the cost for the National Police Air Service including but limited to the cost of the aircraft being in the air.”

The cost per hour for flying NPAS aircraft is £3,200, this includes all costs, note there is no differentiation between a “ground” hour and an “airborne” hour.
To provide any further cost breakdown would greatly exceed the 18 hours stipulated within the Act.

I believe he's in Spain right now if a previous post he made is to go by, where the sun is blisteringly hot. Then again, the sun is always hot.
