Bolton v Wigan

So which is the best town, is it Wigan or Bolton ?

I think that Bolton Town Hall is a beautiful building, and is far better than Wigan Town Hall.

Warrington town Hall is a great looking building. Got married in Wigan town Hall, 27 years ago.

You can't really make a true comparison between Wigan and Bolton as towns, as they are completely different concepts.
Wigan is a town in it's own right. Bolton is not.
Bolton is a much larger urbanisation than Wigan.

In the other thread, OC suggested that Heaton was a "posh" area. But I would regard Lostock as being more so. And that's if you are a believer of the "posh" idea and what it entails.

It shows how much you know about Bolton, as Heaton has always been the area where the more well off reside with Lostock and Smithills next.

Why do you think they built the Middlebrook Retail & Business facility in Lostock and so close to Chorley New Road and Victoria Road/Moss Bank Way which passes Heaton and leads to Smithills.

And actually in area, Wigan is larger than Bolton.

I know something about that, and the reason was nothing to do with how 'posh' the place was or is, and on that subject qbout 'poshness', you must remember that not a stones throw from Middlebrook, there was the rather large, sprawling and very scruffy, and heavy industrialised complex, which made up the old Horwich Loco Works, which lets face it, that wasn't posh was it ?

No,,, the decision to build first of all the new Bolton Wanderers ground at Middlebrook, was because of easy access for the football supporters on to and off of the M61 motorway, the police and Bolton Council could see that both local and away supporters could be accommodated much better and much safer, than what was possible at the old Burnden Park ground, which was almost in Bolton town centre, with all of the problems that caused, and like Wigan they developed the Middlebrook retail park in tandem with the new football stadium, just like what happened at Robin Park in Pemberton

More than likely that as well!

As for the Stadium, many in Bolton especially the club's supporters wanted that to be built nearer to the center of Bolton on the site of the former Power Station and Gas Works between Astley Bridge and Tonge Moor so that it was nearer to where most of their supporters live like it is in Wigan!

Did you know that the distance from Wigan town centre to the toughsheet stadium, is about the same distance as it is from the same stadium to Bolton town centre, it is nearly 6 miles from Bolton town centre, so that is a bit of a walk.

Owd Codger and APLS,

The Middlebrook Retail Park is not in Lostock, it's in Horwich. The football ground is in Lostock though, and so is the car parks. I know that because a friend of mine owns them.
As for Heaton being the 'poshest' place in Bolton, I suggest it's a matter of opinion?
Don't forget, I worked in hundreds of those houses, both in Lostock and Heaton, and I know where I'd pick to live myself. I know theres some nice houses to the left of Victoria Road (as you go up it from Chorley New Road) and near to Beaumont Hospital, but is that classed as Heaton? I think of Heaton as being closer to Bolton School end and up towards Doffcocker.
And, like I've said before, but you don't catch on, "Bolton is a much larger urbanisation than Wigan".
Wigan being a town and Bolton being a borough.
APLS started with "So which is the best town, is it Wigan or Bolton?" and I said, "You can't really make a true comparison between Wigan and Bolton as towns".
'Wigan' is a town. The 'Metropolitan Borough of Wigan' is a borough, like Bolton and St.Helens, not a town.
Two different concepts altogether, which cannot be compared.

He might have been, or he might not have been, but did he own the school like my friend owns those car parks and Bolton Wanderers?
