Tired, aye, but grumpy? Never. I'm trying to catch up on last week's work, and there's more coming in while I'm doing it, so I have been tired when I've got home.

I don't understand that Mollie, I you're on ' time off' you should't have to play ' catch up' on your return ? gerrum Towd,,,,,,

No, Tom. It doesn't work like that. You see, there are three of us ladies, all with our own specific job to do. When they're off, I don't take over their jobs, so all is fair.
Nobody is putting me under pressure, so I'm taking my time and, next week, the supervisor I do most of the typing for is off on his hols, so I'll definitely catch up properly then, so I'm not knocking myself out.

Its not fair on you Mollie,

It's always been that way Tom and, to tell you the truth, I wouldn't want anybody touching "my" stuff as I'd have to check back to make sure they'd done it properly.
I wouldn't want to go near their jobs because I don't know enough about it, especially one, which is checking costs of materials, labour etc, then that's passed on to one of the directors for pricing up, after which she has to sort out the invoices. That would do me yed in. The other one is about checking every single premises in a contract we have with a Manchester based council, which also involves invoicing, and that would do me yed in as well.
My work is far more varied and much more interesting as it's lots of different things, so never boring.

Tom my lad has for years complained about some one doing some of his work when he is on holiday etc. But he has always had to play catch up when he went back to work After 11 years working for the same company he has had enough and is moving on to a fresh start were they will get some one to cover his job

How can anyone get knacked doing a office job?
I never did until I went on the manual side!

Owd Codger, It's hard to dignify that remark with a polite answer but I will say this.
It's not a physically demanding job, but it is a mentally tiring job. When you're sitting staring at a computer screen for several hours a day and having to concentrate very hard on what you're doing your eyes get very tired.
I don't just sit there shuffling papers about and, it is recommended that at least once an hour a worker should walk away from the screen for at least 5 - 10 minutes for eyes to re-adjust. You've no idea just what my job entails, but it's not just about a bit of filing, or making cups of tea, or laughing and chatting to others.
I don't know what job you did before your manual job, and I've no idea at what age you retired, but at 75 years old it gets very tiring, no matter what job you do. Just because you had a cushy office job way back when, doesn't mean every office job is easy, or simple.

Where have I ever mentioned yourself. I only said that I was never knacked in a clerical job which included being a buyer with well known aircraft company and a estimator with a large chemical engineering company until I decided on a fresh start on a engineering shop floor supervision job for better money on shift work where I did get knacked especially after a week of night shifts.

I once got severely battered by Bill Broadey for calling office workers,
pen pushing desk Jockys ,
As a manual worker, I don't see office work as work, I was self employed for quite a few years and the office work was ' fitted in ' between jobs or at night But, my office work was only for myself, If I was doing it for a firm of 10 plumbers, that would be another kettle of fish,
I also have banter with people who drive for a living because, I had to drive to my job, sometimes 50 miles away, Then do my job and then, drive home, and, Don't get me on about painters,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
