Difficult phone calls

I sometimes have unwanted sales calls etc on my landline which I usually ignore. However there has been one which I can’t switch off even though I press the stop the call button. I have found a number provided by my landline provider (Talk Talk) which I rang. There was no one to speak to simply follow an instruction. Did that, now will wait and see. The thing that is most puzzling is not being able to stop the call. Any one else had this problem?

Anne,
If you have a landline telephone which does not have a blocker on it, register your telephone number on the Telephone Preference Service which is free.

Definitely. I've been trying to do a link for the TPS for you Anne, but for some reason I'm not getting it right. Must try harder.
It works 99% of the time, although the occasional one does sneak through.

Thank you Owd Codger,
I did com across that one but it appeared to be for BT users. The one I have used looks to be for Talk Talk users. As I said will wait and see.

No Anne, I'm sure it's not just for a specific company. I'm with Virgin Media, so I'm sure it will work for you.

The main problem with these types of phone calls is that the numbers keep keep changing. You can block one but then it changes. Talk talk has a service [CALL SAFE] that blocks any caller where you have listed that number, but like I said the number changes.

I never get any unwanted calls, only calls I get are from my one friend and the doctors.

Whatever provider you have has nothing to do with it as we are with Virgin and get these kind of calls all the time from different landline and mobile numbers, but the phone never rings as they by blocked on our telephone.
If the number is not knowed to you, do not reply and if you go on a website "Who Called Me", it will tell you if the call is associated with anyone selling somrthing which is more often than not, telephones, insulation and the latest selling of solar panels.

I don't have Caller ID on my phone and, as I rarely get calls, I ignore any incoming and, if it's important, they'll leave a message on my answering machine. That way I have the choice to ring them back, or not, depending on who it was. If no message is left, then it wasn't anyone or anything important.

All seems to be well at the moment. Not had any scam type calls all day.

So you signed up with them Anne? You shouldn't get any more unwanted calls now.

Anne I am also on Talktalk. Go to your account then go to boosters you will then see Manage Add ons Then look for callsafe It's free, If you add that whoever rings you will have to give their name before they can get through and if you reject them it goes on to a blocked list. If you accept it like from a friend they dont need to do this again It stops all unknown calls
