Probably even it up with having a day less at Christmas or some other time. School Easter holidays are taken either before Easter Sunday or after Easter Sunday, depending on when the feast falls, so as to even out the gap between the half term breaks of February and May.

Less days never come in the equation Tuddy, Even after the 6 weeks at Summer they, have retraining days and a gentle come back with the new comers on the first day with the upper years filtering in and the seasoned campaigners getting back on the friday,
Skool Teechers can learn us all about work dodging

I was reading yesterday were on average 20% of pupils were missing for 10% of lessons last year in the Wigan area So don't give them a chance to miss more school because the school is closed The minimum school year is 190 days or 32.5 hrs a week

To be fair to teechers, they have a hard job to do, I remember one of my teechers words, " You are here to learn and if you're not willing to learn, I can't teech" and that's how it is most of the time, A friend of mine left the teeching profession because he said, Medico was the very best he could expect from todays pupils,

Schools have by law, a certain number of days to teach in a year. [Ive been retired a while from teaching so can't remember the exact number]. So contrary to what some believe teachers do not decide willy nilly to take extra days off to suit themselves/ If you want to criticise, do some research first.

What the public and those in authority should be concerned about with the numerous school holidays, is the increases in anti social behaviour, shop lifting etc that takes place, especially in the now outdated six week holiday period where unlike in the past, both parents now are now working

Only this week the police of one town had to turn up in numbers to deal with a large group of teens causing a lot of rouble on a estate.

Do the parents care, no they are either not bothered, out enjoying themselves or are out at work

Are you for real?
You are the first to chastise people for not working and claiming benefits.

Now you are blaming the parents ( because they are working ) for their
kids misdemeanours!

What would you like the parents to do?
Stay at home all day , claim benefits so they can make sure they are at home when the kids arrive back from school, or, go to work and be self sufficient?

Tom

Yoo don't like teachers because of what those naughty nuns did to you at that Greenfield House Catholic Orphanage Skool in Billinge, and it became an Approved School in 1962.

Tom

Did yoo go to an Approved School

Posters are allowed to express an opinion on a topic without yourself having a go at them because the opinion does not meet with your approval!

Perhaps, you could offer some opinions on the topic yourself seeing that you are so bothered about mine!

And where did I say anything about benefits in my comment?

"And where did I say anything about benefits in my comment?"

None in that comment. I was referring to previous comments about which you continue to make comments on people claiming benefits. And you very well know it

Would you like the parents to stay at home all day, drinking alcohol, smoking and taking narcotics and claiming benefits just so they can be at home when their kids arrive back from their education?

Or, would you like the parents to go out and work for a living so that they can be self sufficient and provide for their children withou relying on state handouts?

I don't think you have realised what you have typed!
I'll explain it as simple as I can.

You are tarring the working parents with the same brush as the
" either not bothered, or out enjoying themselves" brigade.

Tom, that is awful. Those god-fearing, holier than thou, apostates of hell should have been bull-whipped for the abuse you (and others) were subjected to by those who were supposed to be teaching you about what it is to be a good member of society.

Did they really think that that's what their god put them on earth for? I'm an atheist and I once saw a woman in the street get on her knees and kiss the shoes of a priest, and he didn't try to stop her. On the contrary, he lapped it up. That's what put me off religion for life. I was born into the Church of England faith, but I met my religious education with derision and suspicion and only ever believed it was brainwashing drama into scaring people.

It's such a pity that, back in those days, kids couldn't have had them arrested for child abuse, as nobody would have believed them anyway but, as you say, you're left with the mental scarring, if not the physical. That's why I consider you to be one of the kindest, most caring of human beings in the way that you treat animals with the greatest respect.

I have never had anything to do with nuns, except people I know who went to schools like Tommy Moooer (St Thomas More) would tell me how psychopathic the nuns who taught there were, nasty buggers who took pleasure in inflicting pain on kids and I know that not all not all of the teachers were nuns, but some were, but I was christened a methodist, and after going to a County Primary school, we moved, and I then attended a Church of England primary school, and the increase in religious practises did my head in, there was religion at the Country Primary school, but on arrival at the Church of England school, I was confronted with, Catechisms, Creeds and Confirmation etc, to which I said "LOOK" I am a bloody Methodist, so go and shove your CofE crap up yer bum, but I didn't say bum

And Catholics I knew would say "yoo would have something to complain about if you went to a Roman Catholic school" so Tom you don't like nuns, and I don't like religion in general, any religion, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, to me they are all a load of crap.

But I respect the opinions and beliefs of other people, I just hope that they respect mine

p.s. I hate vicars

My sentiments entirely, APLS.

Most kids hate school, some for very good reason like Tom, but all in all, I sort of enjoyed it except in religion class as I'd no interest in the clap trap. Was glad to leave, but I did leave with a pretty decent education in the things that did interest me.

Our school days were 9 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. and we got homework from all classes, which were a bore.

Thanks for your understanding Mollie and SLAPS, At that time I was 5 to 8 years old so did't comprehend what was happening, It was only years later when I found out that, I was abused but, many others were as well including my sister and we only got abused in skool hours, the poor orphans who lived in the establishment had 24/7 abusement, I learned they got locked in cupboards as well as beaten, Dark days for myself and many others, I'm just glad I never got picked as an alter boy

Imagine the further trauma of the orphans. Not only did they have no parents to care about them, and love them, but they got no gentleness from those vicious, cruel women who had the audacity to kneel and pray to their god in humility. They are probably still suffering as well, but I hope that as they got older they found nice people who care and love them. On the other hand, they could have grown into bitter unfeeling people who take pleasure in beating others, as well as animals, as they wouldn't have learned any better and would feel no empathy.

I'd better not say much more as I don't want to insult anyone on here who is religious, so I'll leave it at that.

I went to St Oswalds School in Ashton and that was run by nuns and they run the school with a rein of terror .They loved hitting pupils for the slightest of things with a plimsol and left many a red mark on bottoms or bare legs.Today they would be arrested for child abuse

A bit of discipline in school never did anyone any harm.
In fact a lot of people are complaining now, because there is none!

Teachers can't win these days because they are extremly limited in what discipline they can apply!
Make your minds up. Do want teachers to apply discipline , or do you want the adolescents to go unpunished?

There's a massive difference between discipline and abuse. We were disciplined at home before starting school, which we carried through with us until our first day, and we weren't whipped and tortured to make us realise. Discipline begins in the home.

What a ridiculous statement!

Who was whipped and tortured?!

If discipline begins in the home, there would be no need for discipline in the school if you behave!

Its quite possible that some people were not disciplined at home?
And the problems, then begin..

Correct as when I was of school age, it was at a the time there was corporal punishment, but our parents taught us not only to know right from wrong in order to avoid it, but also to have respect for not only the Teachers who give it, but also other people, especially the elderly.

Then came along the pc brigade which has resulted in the foul mouth abuse, anti social behaviour, lawlessness and having no respect for others which sadly has become part of the everyday life of today!

Anyone who also did the two years of national service will also know about the teaching of respect and discipline!

I went to St.Thomas More and was taught by nuns. I never
ever witnessed anyone being physically or mentally abused by any nun. There were only two people allowed to use a cane. One was the headmistress, Sister Rose and the other was deputy head mistress, Miss Horacks. If a girl was canned, it would have been for a serious misdemeanour. Yes they were strict but never brutal. One of the teachers, in particular, was a nasty person, fortunately she wasn't in charge of a cane. Other than her I found that all the other teachers were fine and some even good fun.
And by the way, for any one in doubt. Teachers don't choose the holidays that they or the children have.

I remember seeing a lad whipped at school, by the science teacher. He dragged the lad over the bench, pulled his blazer and shirt up, then whipped his bare back with a rubber tube. The same teacher knocked me unconscious once, and he wasn't a nun.
