Donovans shop

Started by: Nicklander (1)

Hi there
I’m looking for a photograph of the Donovan’s shop which was around in the 50s in central Wigan. If you can help that would be great

Have you tried asking Mrs Google? I've had a look but could find no mention of it. I don't remember it, but I was only a little girl in the 50s. What did they sell?

Mollie, I think Donovan's shop sold paint. They specialised in bright colours like mellow yellow etc..
His daughter was married to him off Gogglebox.

It wasn't in central Wigan, it was on Woodhouse Lane in Springfield.

It is absolutely 50m from the junction of Park Road/ Springfield Road/Woodhouse lane. The two white houses were demolished some years ago. To the right behind the banner the advertising hoarding is on the side of Donovan's shop later to be Wickens. The row of terraced houses to the right had a cobbler's shop on one end, who was a sextant or something at St Andrews and at the other end a second hand furniture shop.
