Sad news for all Wigan and Widnes fans What a player and coach he was.

Such sad news. A great bloke who shone when Wigan were a poor side. Loved a fag and a drink and was good company. RIP Doug.

He never touched a fag until he was in his 40s then he turned into a chain smoker according to Ray French. Rio

Captain of the Wigan team which included one of the best back rows in the history of the Wigan club in Ashurst, Robinson and Laughton.
On retiring as a player, became a successful trophy winning Coach with the outstanding Widnes team of the time!
RIP Dougie, you will not be forgot by Wigan supporters and indeed those of Widnes.

I read Dougie's book, a Dream Come True, a few years ago. When he was at Widnes he was checking the tackle count at half time, it turned out that Jim Mills had only made two tackles in the first half, so Dougie asked him what was going on, Mills replied, would you run at me? R.I.P. Dougie.
