MUSIC ERAS
For me it’s the 1960s. Most of us remember those days when the music was absolutely fantastic, and it can be hard to choose which groups or solo singers you loved the most.
My taste in music is very eclectic, ranging from Tchaikovsky to the Beach Boys to Dire Straits, and other genres in between.
Which era was, or is, yours?

The reason we all like music is because, When we have good days and hear a tune, When that tune is replayed, it brings back a memory, its not just a tune, its a window in life,,,

I like all of those as well, Tom, except for Michael Jackson, but I can't abide rap crap.
Country singers for me are Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Porter Waggoner and, a special favourite of mine was Marty Robbins.
I can't remember how many country albums I have, but there's at least 100, if not more, which include Merle Haggard, Lou Frizzel, Patsy Cline, Hank Snow and many more.

LOL! It's Okie from Muskogee. I love Silver Wings, as well.
Yep, I liked Hank Williams as well, but he sounds really old-fashioned now in comparison. I think I've got one of his as well.
Not into heavy rock though, Tom, although that's a pretty good song.

I prefer the 70,s but
my preference is for northern soul. I really enjoy a lot of tunes but I must admit I can't get my head around most modern stuff?

You and me both Rio, I'm not keen on modern stuff either. I do like soul music very much, even Northern Soul, but my favourite soul singers were Wilson Pickett, Otis Reading, The Temptations, The Four Tops, etc.
Also from the 70s, I loved Dr Hook, and I have about five of their albums.

Doe ray me far so la tee doe is the full alphabet of music so, it takes imagination to arrange them to sound good, then further imagination to make them sound different and good then, even more imagination to make them different differently so, they change the tempo, fry the notes, boil the notes and shift the phrasing to create something new but, it has to stay within those limiting 7 notes,
That is why the oldies are the best, They've run out of ways to make it different

Best music era was the 60s by a long way. Great bands and great memorable songs. I've written and recorded some songs of my own in the same style. If you fancy listening to some, go to the Hobbies section and find the link to my You tube channel - you might like some.

How is it people who remember the 60's can sing along with the songs, and know most, if not all of the words.. Can people do that with today's songs? Will they still be playing them in 60 years time? I very much doubt it.. And as Mollie said. Whats this 'Rapping' all about Biggest load of crap since Tiny Tim. And as for Ed Sheeran.. Wouldn't have got through two songs at any Labour club in Wigan before he was paid up.. Seen better singers busking in Wigan Market Place.

Admin, they remember the words of the 60s songs because they were memorable.
Firstly, you could hear the words being sung clearly in front of the music, not from the background as is the case with most songs these days, thereby eliminating what words they're using, as the enunciation was far better with the older singers and groups.
Secondly, the reason we remember them is because the words actually had meaning, and .....
Thirdly, the instrumentation was much clearer and kinder to the ear instead of all the bash, crash, bang, wallop of drums, fuzz boxes on guitars, and just general loud noise.
The songs we used to sing were mainly from the 60s, 60 years ago, and the audiences we played to remembered them, and the younger ones enjoyed them because it's what their grannies played on their ancient record players!
Jacks, will take a look at those, mayhap tomorrow night.

The best years for me was the 50s.

Domino, as I said in my first post, I have a very eclectic taste in music, and a lot of the 1950s songs were fantastic. I especially like the "doo-wap" sound, skiffle, and singers in their early careers like Tommy Steele, Adam Faith, Cliff Richard, Marty Wilde, and some Americans as well like Ricky Nelson and Elvis.
There'll never be great music like the 50s and 60s ever again because tastes change, but as we still have our memories of those times, and they'll always be with us.

The fifties was, ' real sounds' no computers or drum machines, every pub had a piano in the lounge and there was always someone to 'get up' at the weekend to entertain with talent,

The Railway Inn at the bottom of Enfield Street had a piano when we went there, and on Saturday nights Cynthia Astley (Rick Astley's mam) played, sang, and got people up to sing. Lovely lady, and lovely singer.
