Not an ideal location to mix with fog.

It takes me back to the 60s when I was a member of the Auxilary Fire Brigade.
It was bonfire night and funny enough there wasn't any callouts, so at about 22.00 we were sent home.
I remember the buses had stopped running so I and my mate went to catch a train the Gathurst, and as we walked up Gathurst lane the crashes started, we heard just a lorry engine sound then a bang as it crashed into another vehicle in the valley.
We ran up the lane to the footbridge to see what was going on but we couldnt see anything, just screams and crashing sounds.

The Death Valley on the M60 (used to be M62) as it crosses the Irwell Valley is bad for driving from sunny crystal clear weather, into a dense wall of fog

Aye, it's bad out there. Just got home from work, after calling somewhere else on my way. As I came out of work at 4 p.m. there was a slight mist but, as I continued on, it got thicker and thicker.

Luckily the majority of drivers were being sensible and sticking to low speeds, but I lost count of how many people I called brainless on the way - for having no lights on their cars! Can you believe that? Well, yes, I suppose you can.

Lights should be used in fog, yes, but there's nothing worse than those who switch on their 'fog-lights', blinding the other drivers!

That's true. I don't have fog lights on my car, but I wouldn't use them anyway even if I did.

Mr Apples will be loving every minute of the gloom out there.

Funny yoo say that, because the fog has never really lifted all day, and by 4.30pm it was really stupid, and now it is so stupid, that it is reminding me of the pea souper's from the 1960s.

As regards the gloom, I only really enjoy it when it has gone dark, dark and the fog is stupid

Are you Jack? He liked having a walk round on a foggy night. With a cloak on!

It was strange on the way home though as there was just a light mist in some areas and, just when you thought it was beginning to clear a bit, WHAM, you hit a thick blanket of it again.

It's forecast to be worse later on, but I have to nip out again anyway. Luckily I don't have as far to go next time.

Tonker, I said something similar in a previous thread about him walking the streets wearing a top hat, cloak and walking cane on cobbles glinting from the rain!

I always make names out of letters. The first two letters of my last car number plate were KT, so she was named Katy. The car I have now has the last three letters DTY, so she's Dotty, so the letters have to appear in the correct order!

I do the same. My last car, though, had the letters WKR and I couldn't think of a name for him!

Despite it's sleek lines and beautiful curves, I couldn't call it a "her".

Come to think of it, I don't know why machinery is given the title of "her," as in ships, planes, cars etc. How did that originate?

Tonker

No, I am not Jack the Ripper, but that Victorian gloom described in books of the time, is what I like it to be like

That Fog as described earlier, has nearly cleared from around here

There was no wind to blow the fog away.I nipped to my bin this morning and the fog had lifted but the car was coated in ice.
