Tourist tax

Started by: PeterP (12078)

Reading the other day about the proposal to charge a tourist tax of £12 a night to stay in any hotel in England also the Welsh are proposing a tax of £1-50 a nightDo we not pay enough in taxes without being taxed to go on holiday or for business . I went to Malta last year and the hotel charged 50 cents per night so for my stay it was 3 EURO 50 CENTS which is not a lot but why should we have to pay anything extra

It's already being paid in Manchester under Burnham...£1 per night.

Bb, Andy Burnham gives 15% of his monthly salary to aid the homeless in Manchester.

Manchester's money £1 a night goes towards street cleaning . Edinburgh due to be 5%, of your bill up to7 nights, to tidy up streets and parks, build more affordable homes and install underground bins.

Touring/holidays is a leisure activity, So if you have to money to spend on this luxury then, a couple of quid more to pay for essentials for the poor folks is ok in my mind BUT, It should not be given to the lazy or the immigrants, I'll donate all day long to the working person on minimum wage whos' struggling to keep warm,

Tom, a person doing a 40 hour week on minimum wage is currently grossing £488 a week!
Think of the Chocolate Eclairs I could buy with that, and still heve some left over to pay for a bit of gas to keep warm with!!

We've got the heating on AND the log-burner lit. Gas is going through the boiler at the rate of £50 a week due to this cold snap. I was thinking of clearing off to Spain for a couple of weeks but they've issued a warning over there of -4 expected later this week!
Choice between a rock and a hard place?!

If as a tourist you’re using local services and enjoying public spaces, tourist tax is a small way of contributing to keeping those amenities in tip-top condition.

Top Tip Too! Billy Moore visits Piccadilly regularly, filming the low-lifes. You can see him on You Tube!
