Women commentators of Football

Started by: admin (1842)

I was watching Football Focus earlier The "pundits" were Glen Murray Ex Brighton player and some woman.. The presenter asked them What was the first F.A Cup final they could remember? Glen Murray said it was the 1981 Cup final. She appeared to be embarrassed by the question and mumbled a bit and said she couldn't remember any!!!! but she remembered Italia 90 THAT'S the reason women should comment on the men's Football games.

Its the way of modern living Admin, If there are any vacancies in TV today, The vacancy will always go to a low majority group to show that the TV company is not being prejudiced , So the favourite candidate will be a , foreign person who is in a gender other than, Male of female, none white and speaks pigeon English but, speaking at all is not essential as they can put subtitles on in several hundred languages to suit all the newer immigrants

tom, Exactly.. People these days get jobs in the Media not because they are the best person for that job. It's because they tick one of the numerous "Boxes" Which doesn't include ... White, Heterosexual, Male or Female, Christian, No Disabilities. When I was at school I had an ambition to be a pilot.. But being colour blind I knew I had NO CHANCE Today If I applied and was turned down to be a pilot because of my colour blindness. I would be suing the Airforce for discrimination..
A friend's son who is in the Fire Service told me a few years ago when they first allowed women to be Firemen. One women who was taken on, couldn't reach the ladders fixed to the Fire Engine So they had the fire engine modified...

At one time no matter what sport was on Telly there was ONE commentator and maybe one other at half time .Now there is coverage by at least SIX people from in the studio to pitch side .Even Rugby League are getting the same with an idiot commentator being televised running along the side or on the pitch during the game. There is coverage before during and after games by these overpaid pundits

You forgot to mention that when many of the television presenters go on celebrity quiz shows like Pointless and the Chase etc, they show themselves up to be as thick as two short planks by being unable to answer questions on general knowledge which many learned at junior school.

It appears that where a CV is concerned, you do not need one to get a job as a television presenter now!

Codger Im always saying it. The people who appear on game shows where general Knowledge is needed i.e. answering questions In te main or THICK They come on saying they have degrees and are Managers of business's Teachers, other job titles which I have never heard and they are THICK.
One question that sticks in my mind out of thousands. This woman contestant who has some Posh job title was asked about a mountain, I think it was Mont Blanc? Which mountain range was it in.. HIMALAYAS. ANDES or ALPS She looked dumbstruck and said "I've never heard of any of those."
No wonder the country is in the state it is. Probably the last book she read was 'JANET and JOHN'

Unfortunately Geography And History are now optional subjects in school so any one who is younger than 50 years of age may have not learn these subjects in school

Peter, I have learned a lot more about history and geography since I left school. Also I must say I have never needed to use algebra in any job I had.. While I'm on about school, however can anyone say that children who take a weeks holiday in term time can't catch up that work in a couple of weeks is just deluded.

Peter, you aren't taught GENERAL KNOWLEDGE Its something you acquire by Reading and Listening. And I don't mean reading text messages on Social media. via your Mobile Phone.
AND I don't think anything is taught in schools these days to any specific level... The English and Maths of some school leavers is akin to what I knew aged 11.

I wholeheartedly agree about some of the contestants that go on The Chase. There are some easy questions (if you know the answers), and some hard questions (if you don’t). Obviously, some folk are probably convinced that they’re very clever, perhaps even encouraged by some to take part, but the level of general knowledge of some of them is appalling so yes, they’re thick, and it can be very embarrassing to watch them struggle with simple questions with obvious answers, some so elementary that they’re taught in infant school. Some give laughable answers. One comes to mind. A girl/woman who I believe is in Hollyoaks was asked “What is a calf the young of?” Answer: “Baby horse?” There have been many equally ridiculous answers given, and shows just how thick they are.

It’s not just so-called celebrities though. I don’t know why some of them, whose knowledge is clearly limited, think they’re capable of getting through. To be honest, my general knowledge is reasonable, but ask me any question on sport, politics, maths or films, my knowledge is almost non-existent because I have no interest in them. Geography I’m so-so; not bad at kings and queens and history generally; reasonable at the sciences; meaning of words I’m good at; music I’m good at; food I’m good at; animals good as well; English language, spelling etc, excellent; so, overall, I have a reasonable breadth of knowledge in most subjects. That doesn’t make me clever. It just means that, at my age, I’ve amassed a lot of “useless” information which has been stashed away in my brain for as and when I need it, most of which I learned since leaving school. People only learn what they’re interested in, but many of those TV celebrities seem to have a one-track mind in the subject they chose to do their jobs and everything else is a complete mystery to them. I’d hate to have gone through life like that, but they’re not aware of how thick they are until they go on a show like that.

General Knowledge = having basic knowledge across a wide range of different subjects rather than detailed knowledge of one subject that you have studied intensively.

Mollie informed - "my general knowledge is reasonable, but ask me any question on sport, politics, maths or films, my knowledge is almost non-existent because I have no interest in them."

Therefore, Mollie, it follows that your general knowledge is quite poor.
Although I have knowledge on a lot of things, generally, I consider my general knowledge to be quite poor too!
Sport, actors, tv programmes, films, books, music etc., I know noooooooothing!
In fact, I know noticeably less now than I did a year ago, wi't'yed not bein' reet!

I sit and have my breakfast and tea in the dining room and a have a crossword book which after a while you can glean knowledge from. All the answers are in the back of the book and if I don't know an answer then I circle the clue. I average not knowing about 10 clues per page but do learn from it
