COOKIES

No, not biccies.

Can someone please tell me a way of removing cookies from a Win10 computer? I got this one a few months ago, which was one of several from work that were being dumped. They’d all been wiped of works information, so my friend set this one up for me from my Win7 programme.

I never bothered removing Cookies when I had my works one as I never felt the need, but this has started to bother me now.

Remember, an EASY way of removing them, step by step, like you were teaching a 4-year old.

Will be back later to see any kind replies.

While are some people obsessed with updates and thinking they have to have the latest version of windows?

Like sonlyme said "I've gone back to a 14 year old sony vaio windows 10 which works fine".

Ive still got an old tower stored away in the loft with windows XP installed which I use for emergency back up. Its never been supported by microsoft for years, but it still works perfectly considering the age of it!

In a nutshell, security

No security needed if you are just browsing the net, reading the BBC news or watching youtube, etc.

You can pay for as much security as you like, but the chances are, you are still vulnerable to being scammed, or hacked!

There are still a lot of POS systems still using windows XP

Your choice chesh. Personally I wouldn't use it unless I wanted to leave myself wide open to be infected with various malware, bugs, worms, pups and viruses.

Many thanks to all who have replied, so first thing's first:

First of all, thank you Tommy39 and Sonlyme. I've done that now so hopefully all will be well again.

The last thing I wanted was Win10, because I hated it when it was introduced at work in Feb 2020 and, a month later, I was furloughed so didn't get to get used to it like the others did. It was earlier this year we went onto Win11 and I hate that even more with its continuous pop-ups and glitches.

I had been on Win7 very happily for years, but the old girl started to need new parts and, as computers were being replaced at work, I got one of them, and my friend sorted me out with my programmes and bookmarks.

Peter: I'm on Google now.

Tom: CCleaner is not as safe as it once was. As Tommy said, it tracks everything you do and sells information on to other sites, so not a good idea.

Nothing to do with security as Microsoft is not secure, (and I don't go on any dodgy sites), any more than anything else. Like Cat says, I only use it for TV and You Tube which are safe. As to speed, well I'm not in any rush.

Thank you all so much.

CC cleaner is not as good as it used to be, I agree and ALL programs follow you and see what you're doing, its called , IT marketing but, It does work for me when the puter gets full of ' too much ebb and flow' it speeds things back up although, It wants to go a step further, for a payment, I just ignore that and Hey, I'm same as thee Mollie a rookie, Tommy two faces is a better IT advicer and I was waiting for him to tell us, the best way ,

Tom, I know APLS is our site computer tech, but I'm really not totally unaware of a lot of things, computer-wise, but before I do anything to compromise my computer, I'd rather ask those that know more than me first before I commit me and my device.

Without repeating previous discussions, they call it IT Marketing to make you feel more secure, but let's call it what it really is - AI, Big Brother, et al, following every move you make, so be careful what you click onto.

Defragmentation is another good way of getting rid of files that are still in the hard drive, because you can't totally get rid of anything just by deleting them, and that's how a computer can slow down. They're still there, lurking about. Haven't done mine for a while, so must get that done soon.

I've defragged mine in the same way as sonlyme, bashed the hard drive in a million quarters with a Hommer,,,

No Tom, it's not the same thing as getting rid of Cookies. Defrag is a completely different thing altogether.

I can't explain the fully technical jargon but, simply put, every time you use your computer/device and go into a programme, for instance, a video to watch, then you delete it, it's not gone from the hard drive, but stored away out of sight. If you send something to your Recycle Bin and then empty that, it still stays in the hard drive, choking up space. That's where defragmentation comes in to get rid once and for all.
