I’m very often on my own on Christmas Day so I don’t bother buying different food. I might cook myself a Sunday dinner, but nothing special. I do sometimes get invited to my brother’s home on Christmas Day, which is nice, but last time I went two years ago he did a lovely buffet as there were only three of us, and I enjoyed that just as much.

Last year I was in hospital over Christmas and, believe it or not, the food was absolutely fantastic, and I ate more in there than I would normally at home. On that Christmas Day we had the usual soup for starters, then a Christmas Din-Dins made up of a really big chunk of turkey breast with the accompanying vegetables, and probably a dessert which I never bothered with.

So, i-spy, what are you having for a change?

Would have had a roast beef dinner but going to my son's and they are having a turkey dinner. I think at times Turkey itself is overrated and at times if eaten by its self is bland to the taste.

I'm not keen on turkey so i've got a nice piece of brisket,a small lamb joint ans a gammon joint.Whats left will be bagged up and used another day.

As many things go around in circles, perhaps the time has come for a return to Dickensian times and a return to the Goose for Christmas dinner.

If it was good enough for Scrooge and Tiny Tim and his family, it must be good enough for we Wiganers!

I agree with that sort of menu for Christmas Day, I have used Pork Loin instead of Brisket, and the beauty of Pork is that you can make a nice stuffing with it, and you can't go wrong with a Gammon Joint, Turkey is OK on the day, but I don't like it has left over's in the fridge, the same with Lamb, a fresh Roasted Leg of Lamb is delicious, but I don't like it cold, or reheated, in that state I think it tastes horrible, but freshly cooked Lamb is brilliant
