Tonker, Its not me honest but, while tha here, I need help with a project, For Halloween I'm setting a skeleton on a rocking chair at my front door, My problem is this,
The rocking chair is worked with a windscreen wiper motor off a car, So its 12 v DC, Its going to be triggered by a PIR which works off 240V. So my plan was to use the PIR from the house plugged in the mains and when the PIR is triggered it lives up an extension from which a 240 to 12v reducer moved the wiper motor and also lights some LED lights for the sellies eyes,
The 240 v to 12v won't do the job, It has't got the amperage to work the motor, Can you suggest an alternative device to work the motor and the PIR ?

You'll need a 240v ac to 12v dc transformer with at least three times the power output of the windscreen wiper motor's rating. It won't be cheap!
I would suggest a 240v relay, operated by the PIR, switching the motor off a 12v car battery. The problem with this is it won't last long as it'll be switching a starting load on dc, which will cause arcing and burn the relay switch out. A proper dc switching relay won't be cheap either.

i don't like the term , ' won't be cheap' then a few moments later, ' that won't be cheap either, I might just work it manually from a nearby point,

anyways thanks for your input and I'll look up the parts and see if its feasible and if its not all that ' won't be cheap' I might choose that because it will ' come in' for other projects,
Many thanks Tonks

In the early 1980s I had a car which had air horns fitted, the compressor operated from a high power cable from the battery, operated by a relay which was screwed into a bulkhead in the engine bay, the low power switch from the relay was connected to the vehicle horn button, I obtained a second pair of air horns which I wired into the battery and relay myself, which allowed the horn button to operate both relays and compressors, although each compressor had a separate connection and relay to the battery, both relay switches were connected using just one cable to the horn button and when I blew the horns, it took that much power from the system, that the alternator light came on, if it were me and it were 40yrs ago, I would go and cannibalise some relays and wiring etc from vehicle or vehicles in a scrapyard, back then I would spend hours in a scrapyard and come home with allsorts of crap I had found

Just been looking for more suggestions on the world wide net and caught a good idea in theory but, Will it stand the test of Tom's project, I'm going to find out in some trials tomorrow,
Its to use the 12 volt output from a computer power unit, As I have a
'no longer used' puter in the stores so it won't cost a bean, It has a 240v input so It can take the PIR outlet to trigger the equipment,

Watch this space experiments start tomorrow in Tom's Laboratory

What's it's power rating? A 12v dc motor, driving a load, will need more power than any computer will.

can't quote any figures Tonks but, I'll run the flag up the pole and if it fly's, it's good and if it don't, it don't , When and if, it runs, it will only run 10 seconds per PIR, trigger and if it burns out, Hey' Its Halloween,

Update, The computer power unit , although will output 19.5 DC volts will not work my Halloween scelington , I'm back to square one

here's a prototype working off a 12 v car battery

Yer allers tinkering wi’ summat.

Have ya tried a defribrillator on th’owd mon from’t bone orchard?

If not, ya’ll need a nympho mayshon pack on how to re-animate owd skellingtons.

Mollie, What an imagination you have, Thank you, You have just given me a beltin' idea for next years display, I'll have a dead body on't front garden with the Skelinton giving the dead body a Defibrillator resuscitation with, Both the bones and dead body vibrating and flashing led's .

anyrodeup, I've now decided this year, I'l operated the skelington from inside using one of my radio transmitters to a receiver moving a servo to move a toggle switch,

Always happy to help, Tom. I'm just a pigment of my own menageration though! I always have good ideas but never have the means to carry them out.

What I'm a bit concerned about though is, whose dead body will you be using?

Well funny you should ask, I'm presently negotiating between Bithells Skips and over 80's residents to form an association were, Each member pays a small fee and when the member reaches the ' end of life' Bithells collect the bodies and disposes of them cheaply,
Its a lottery type of funeral because if 50 people die in the same period , Bithell can do a skip for £200 so thats only £4 per body, If you're unlucky and die on your own, you will have to pay the £200,

So anyways, If it lands on a good week, I might have a choice,

My word. You've got it all figured out. Quite the entrepreneur, aren't you? A finger in every butty, but I do detect one little itsy-bitsy flaw in your project!

What if owd Skelly can't manage to defib the deceased old person? Hmmm?

Well, you've plenty of time between now and next year, so back to the drawing board in the meantime.

Well, like I said, we're still in negotiations so these little hic cups will get ironed out before then,
On the flip side of that, supposing my scellie defip'd a body and it rose, Now that would be worth seeing hey ?

It would be a bleedin' miracle, so you make sure you're videoing at all times.

You'd have a team of doctors, nurses, surgeons and others of notoriety hammering at your door, not to mention the paparazzi with their pens, pads and cameras flashing into your face, screaming for your story. You'd be world wide news and make millions when you sell them your recipe for resurrection. I can see it all now in the headlines.

Ah yes, but I've never denied being daft. I thrive on daftness, if only to bring a smile to somebody's chops. I enjoy being daft, but I can be serious tha' knows when I need't be.

Aye lass, we are ships in the sea with good cargo that passed each other but never met,
Such is life, book in for the Bithell skip disposal and, you never know, My skelinton might meet you on my garden
