Haigh and Theodore Major

Started by: JR (593)

I have just heard that Theodore Major's collection of paintings formerly aquired by Wigan Council for exhibition at Haigh Hall is now a no goer. That's rather sad. Can anyone advise on how the 'plug was pulled?

I've just heard that due to Al and Al being dismissed, Theo Major's daughter and the Lindsay family have pulled out of the project at Haigh.

You forgot to add In your opinion. I see Maureen OBern is asking if the new culture secretary has been informed.

I guess 100 times more than I get paid as a consultant!

This is the second time that a planned museum project by Wigan Council has not happen.

Is the items of the previous planned project still rusting away in the Lowton field?

Haigh Hall development stopped.
Wigan Pier development stopped
The Galleries big hole waterlogged.
The time as now come for these inept councillors to resign and let the board of the Rugby League team take over and make a success of this once proud town.

Where does it say Haigh Hall development stopped?

The government awarded the Haigh Hall project a £20million grant. I would imagine there's conditions.

Anyroadup, in my opinion, which I'm entitled to, £20million is far too much to waste on a project to benefit the few when hospitals, like the one in Wigan, are holding 90 year-olds, on drips, on two chairs in a corridor because they have no beds available.

Tonker, I may be wrong here but didn't the monetary come from the Heritage Lottery Fung? If so then it would only apply to Listed structures, scheduled monuments, etc. But I might be mistaken. Lottery funding is also awarded to art projects. I think Big Lottery funding goes yo dports and play.

JR, the money came from the government's 'Levelling Up Fund'. Like I said, there's conditions to be followed which, after all, are necessary due to the funds being public money. The grant to the Haigh Hall project was given on the merits of the project and will be binding. Government won't agree to funding something which is different to what was agreed on in the first place. Probably.

JR, £20m is from the government's Levelling up Fund. HLF (money from lottery ticket sales and scratchers) has chipped in £3.8m. Wigan Council has chipped in a few million too!

Anyroadup, JR, Theodore Major's paintings are so corny they are hilarious and that saves them from being crap!
All those paintings he did and named them "Wigan" could be anywhere. Just a painting of a dreary-looking place, flat, lifeless, in the rain ....... "Wigan"?
And the same blokes are in every painting!

Perhaps the reason why Wigan does not progress like many other towns nd so many mistakes are made and money wasted is because the Council has too many Councillors from one party with many of them only intrested in the allowances and putting up their hand at a full Council meeting.

Sixty odd out of Seventy Five Councillors is hardly a good thing for any town to do better!

And if you do not beleive me, attend a full Council meeting to see how the one party stifes any debate on the agenda!

It sounds like the government have stopped the money LINK

Maybe the government think that the money is not being spent properly, and that is down to Al & Al's involvement in the project, so the government have told Wigan Council to get shut of them.

Tonker:

"Why are they wearing Clown’s Shoes?"

I have made reference to those feet elsewhere, and after carefully examing the enlarged photo and comparing the feet from the Council blokes to those Al & Al chappies, the Council men's feet are normal, so the photo is not distorted, so Al & Al really must have feet that shape

So are they 'aliens' ? shapeshifters ? crap shapeshifters ?

It really is weird, so maybe that is another reason that Angela Rayner and probably Lisa Nandy too, because she is the Culture Secretary, they don't want alien beings spending government money on Haigh Hall

Aye. Also, the left Al looks like he's had someone elses head attached to his body, or vice versa, his head on someone elses body. I think he must be the 'pillow-biter'!

Owd 'Un., the council is 'the council', a non-political government body. The councillors are just representatives of the public against the council, not 'the council'. They have very little, if any, authority over 'the council' regardless of what political party they represent.
