MARTINDALE'S GARDEN NEWTOWN

Started by: admin (1790)

I am in contact with a relative of the family( who happens to be my old Physics teacher at the TLS) Who is looking for any photographs of the garden. Has anyone got any?? The land was sold off in the late 60's early 70's and is now a housing estate. The only legacy is one of the roads is called MARTINDALE CRESCENT. I believe it was a large magnificent garden covering 3 acres.

Can't imagine a lot of photos being available because it was a well guarded orchard. Many kids in newtown tried to raid it but we're always chased off.

I'm sure Martingales lived in a large house on Ormskirk Rd across the backs from the Orchard?

I don’t think so F.M. but it sounds interesting, the one that I read talked about his garden an awful lot and how his pupils helped a lot in be garden..and there was a photo of a model I think it was leaning against an arch..it must b lost in my house because I would never throw a book out wth all that history..plus it is a lovely book to read.
