cycling
morning everyone, since retiring I took up cycling and quickly found out that I like it, I bought myself an electric, pedal assist bike and its twice the fun and freedom of the road is great, after a while I joined up with a group of 5 others of a similar age and they showed me new routes that are quiet and a ride now involves a stop in a cafe, So its good for keeping moving and socialising too, Today we're off to Monton Manchester and its a lovely day so. Ill report back laters

Todays ride was to the Eccleston Delph, Its an old Quarry and was bought by a diving skool, its a interesting place to visit where you can get a great lunch and watch the ' Mike Nelson' wanna be's swimming in the quarry

Tom, I went there, with my friends, when I was a kid. We cycled from Wigan to Ecky Delph and went swimming in the flooded quarry. I remember diving in from the rocks and also trying to swim to the bottom. Great fun, but probably very dangerous.

yea we did as well, in those days its what we did but, health n safety rules have stopped it, even now the depth is privately run by a diving skool, there are strict rules and, no one is allowed to swim without a, wet suit and a high viz float tied to them,

We some times call E+Safety but there have been too many life's lost due to drownings in these sort of places. It is only a few weeks ago a young lad tragically lost his life within throwing distance of where Tom lives A few years ago my son lived at Monton and there are some nice areas along the Bridgewater canal
