I've never been interested in tholympics . we had field events at skool and there were fast un's , slow uns and inbetweeners, Fasted lad at our skool by a country mile was Pat Dooney , he excelled by head and shoulders over every class, every race and was the top athlete in the area yet, unheard of in the circles of olympic standards, So the guys and gals and the other genders at that level are super human and beyond my perception

The Olympics are now getting ridiculous with team events with top professionals from Football and Rugby Union who have their own World Cup competitions, Tennis where again, they have their own four big trophy competitions and now includes so called sports like Syncronised Swimming and this year, Surfing and I have been told even break dancing.

What next, American Football or even tiddly winks?

It was far better in the days when only Amateurs took part as it was then more in line with the concept of the Greek games of centuries ago when athletes competed against each other on a individual basis!

Another reason to not watch Telly.Waste of billions of pounds/euros and over half a million tickets not sold what does that tell you about the olympics

I watched it till the rugby came on. The boat parade was boring. they could have lit up the boats or had projected images on buildings. Really it was all for TV . dancers in the streets where no one could see and a man running across the rooftops where no one could see but TV cameras. So , i flipped back when I gave up on rugby to see a very clever robotic horse running across the river but it went on and on. Then it got to land when it changed to a real horse which did a slow walk with the Olympic flag which went on and on. Then this woman got off to carry the flag and she did a slow walk to the flag pole which went on and on. I gave up then and went to bed with a book.Really because it wasn't in a stadium it had no atmosphere at all.

My Wife and I stopped watching it as we found it boring and was not as good as a opening ceremony in a stadium with a atmosphere and no way as good as what London produced in 2012, so we switched over to a programme we had recorded.

If the problems on the French Railways were commited by their own people, it would appear that some of the French people have not been happy about the amount of money being spent on the overated event!

I switched on for the last 10 minutes or so, just in time to see the lighting ceremony and to hear Celine Dion singing Edith Piaf's "Hymne A L'Amour. Such a powerful voice.

I enjoyed it more when it was more like real greek olympics, and the competitors were amateurs and not overpaid professionals.

Thankfully, certain events like boxing have rermained that way!

All depends on what part of Paris you visit as the same kind of arrogance can also apply to certain districts of London!
