GOLF $$$$$$$

Hi did anyone watch the golf over the last 4 day's? IE .
The Players Championship from Sawgrass in Florida ? My question is about the end result ,the pay packet , in particular the winner Scottie Scheffler on the first two days his playing partner was one Rory McIlroy who did not make the cut on Friday anyway i digress apart from some wonderful shots and in second place was a BRIT One Tyrrell Hatton ,but what i wanted to know what you think about the Prize money for finishing First ,some $ 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS ,Tyrrell Hatton picked up a cool $ 2.725 MILLION DOLLARS , when i heard what he got i thought bloody hell that works out at $ 1. million 125 k per 18 holes you may not know but i used to play and really enjoyed it with my mates , but on reflection one has to ask are they actually worth so much????
In the cold light of the day just think about it for one moment for a round of golf 18 holes he ( the winner) gets ONE MILLION & 125 THOUSAND DOLLARS XS BY FOUR ROUNDS = 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS .
I know some on here who don't care for golf will have a pop ,well good that's what i would like ,your views as i said just thinking about it because i used to play ,i still cannot get my head round the huge sums after all they don't carry anything but their own glove ! they are dressed very smart and rarely break a sweat and finally doing something they really like ,so let me know what you think ??? P..S. CONGRATS TO THE ENGLISH LAD TYRRELL TOO .. G.B.

Golf is massive in the America G B and has been since the days of Bobby Jones ,Gene Sarazen et al .Of course T V made it even larger due to the massive advertising charges and the increase in the games appeal across the states .
The college system is important and virtually ensures a regular supply
of golfers who join the undertour before the regular P G A tour .
The european tour is growing with regular prize money approaching 1 million to the winner .
Golf clearly dosnt appeal to everyone witness some on here who post.
I woudnt walk 100 yds from my front door to watch F 1 but recognise it has huge appeal .
Regarding Rory .
Perhaps this year ithe Masters is the priority .
Good post G B and good luck .

WOW Mr.G.
You certainly threw a few Brilliant oldies in there ,i guess my era starts from the time when one HENRY LONGHURST used to commentate on BBC Golf prog called " The Big Three " don't know if you ever watched it? IT was a threesome with the likes of Arnold Palmer/ Jack Nickaus / Gary Player and later i think Lee Trevino joined in, But as i may have said earlier my hero was /and still is Jack Nicklaus ( ie Golden Bear ) My clubs are Golden Bear by MacGregor just checked on google and accordingly are reported to be some of the rarest golf clubs on the market today !!
But i suppose it was a rhetorical question about the prize money ,it just seems very good though . G.B.

Re Big Jack .
You may recall his terrific sporting gesture towards Tony Jacklin in the Ryder cup at birkdale back in the day when he gave Jacklin a 4 foot putt on the last green with the game all square .It was a missable putt but Jack v v sportingly gave it saying to Jacklin " YOU WOULD HAVE HOLED IT "
Sportsmanship at its best .
