not exactly a NY resolution, but
I do sincerely intend to be far less disorganised than I have allowed myself to become.
(thoughts drift to John Cleese, in 'Clockwise!)
I do have a lot of tools.
I allocate a whole room to them: a tool room.
But the frustration of not being able to find a particular instrument is an all too frequent occurrence.
I almost bought a new hacking knife when I could not find the one I have. (It's a heavy knife designed to be struck with a hammer, to remove old glazing putty) Turns out that I had put it away with plumbing tools, pipe slices and such like: God knows why!
I have had enough of this time wasted because I cannot find the required tool!
I am happy to spend the dosh and buy lots of magnetic strip to store things in full view, and even to paint backboard silhouettes, so each tool might be replaced in identical location.
If any of you have ever faced similar problems, and have any advice with respect to solutions, I would greatly appreciate hearing of them.
A small collection of tools get used far more frequently than the rest:
3 straight screwdrivers
3 cross/ posi/philips screwdrivers
mole wrench
pliers
pincers
nail punch
claw hammer
cutters
wire strippers
81s (pointed pliers)
and a few similar odds and sods.
I thought it would be nice to get a leather tool wallet to keep this group to hand, but they seem to have become collectors items now, and a bit pricey!

Have a search for garage tool racks or pegboards for storage.

I have these 6" x 12" open storage baskets, on the next to the top shelf on a rack I made, put at eye level for keeping everyday odds and sods in, seeing in easy and lifting on top shelf as you need them, but you can get them in most Pound Shops in town for £2 for 4 they have gone up --Look--
PS Was in the pound shop in Ashton yesterday 3 for £1--- 6x12
