rubbish pal are you trying to tell people on here that you support a guy who would,nt walk 10 yards to a crossing & try and save 20 seconds by jumping into the road . absolute rubbish .
Replied: 17th Aug 2022 at 11:44
Where did you get your information that this gentleman JUMPED into the road where you there at the time . Agree some people cannot be arsed to walk a few yards to cross over a road using a dedicated crossing. But in this case the gentleman either had a death wish(health problem) or it was a pure accident and he misjudged the flow of traffic and payed the price for his mistake. Either way I have sympathy for him and the lorry driver
Replied: 17th Aug 2022 at 14:37
He didn't "run out" or "jump in front of" anything. The traffic was stopped. The man was walking round the back of the wagon, when he seemed to have tripped and fell, partially against the rear wheel of the stationary truck. As this happened, the truck pulled away and ran over his arm.
Replied: 17th Aug 2022 at 15:13

We got told from someone that was there at the time it happened, Two people "Man & wife" were walking down the street to the crossing at Greens, as they got too the pound shop just before the crossing, which had just changed to green, two Lorries had already stopped, the wife carried on walking to the crossing old man walked between the two lorries that were stopped.
Thats all she could say for sure so it looks to me whups was right in what he first said it was the daft mans fault before going 10 yards to a safe crossing as his wife did

Going back to the Dean family dougie is correct as jimmy dean was my fathers best mate as a youngster, all family was very friendly and they must have been devastated when one of daughters was killed by a drunk driver one New Year's Eve, my mother still sees the other 2 sisters, and I actually worked with one (Sheila) in 70s,not seen cliff in a long time he joined the Buffs when we was at Garswood Hall, good days.

Led bulbs you need
Replied: 25th Sep 2022 at 17:14
They claimed these bulbs to be long life, but I found no improvement over the longevity of incandescent bulbs.
Perhaps LEDs will fare better. Theoretically, they should be longer lasting, but the printed strip LEDs which I have had in hand torches are also showing poor longevity. Hopefully, domestic lighting bulbs will do better. Too early to tell, I think the jury is still out.
Replied: 25th Sep 2022 at 17:37

For every traditional 100 watt bulb you replace with its LED replacement on average usage you’ll save at least £12 per year.
Given a cost of £6 for the bulb, Amazon, you’ll get your money back in 6 months and be saving the £12 each year thereafter.
I’ve been swapping incandescent bulbs for LED’s for over 12 years now and haven’t needed to replace any LED bulbs yet.

I have used LED bulbs for a couple of years now and have had to change a bulb in a coach light outside which as a PIR fitted .(side of bungalow) at least twice Yet have a similar light at the back of the bungalow which has the old 100watt bulb and we have lived here 8yrs and never changed this bulb. I also have triple lights in the bedrooms and although these lights are on a minimal time at least 4 LED bulbs have had to be changed in the last few years.

I know of people using former LMS incandescent bulbs.
Seems they were over-engineered, ie bout built-in obsolescence, and consequently do not burn out.
Not sure when, no doubt the relevant gen is to be found online, lightbulb manufacturers decided longevity in their product was not in their best interest, so they engineered it out.
Would be really interesting to hear if anyone can confirm the Jonny Moggy story, I certainly remember much of his stock being pre-war!
I have got red LED indicators on printed circuit boards that have been performing fault free since the 1960's, but I gather the electronics used in driver circuits for LED lighting are the weak link where failures occur. (Though output does slowly reduce)

LED bulbs are classified by the light output in lumens and colour, warm white, cool white and daylight.
To replace a 100 watt bulb in a living room you need a 1600 lumen LED bulb in warm white colour.
I have an unused bulb to the above spec. with a bayonet cap fitting which is surplus to requirements. All of our bulbs are now Edison screw.
I’ll ask Dougie to drop it off for you the next time he passes your house.

Second Lytham & St-Annes from Blackpool you get the bus to Lytham and get off at St-Annes, it's like Ashton & Bryn to me you get the bus from Wigan and get off at Bryn or Ashton as the bus is going to Leigh,
If had just put St-Annes it could have been anywhere
Replied: 13th Oct 2022 at 10:52
Try telling that to St.Annes locals. I mean, those who live in St.Annes!
Lytham and St.Annes are not like Ashton & Bryn.
In so much as, Bryn is just an area in Ashton in Makerfield.
The real Bryn is the Gerard's estate, Bryn Park. It's all Ashton.

St.Annes is OFFICIALLY St.Annes on Sea.
St.Annes on Sea.
St.Annes Railway Station.
St.Annes Police Station.
St.Annes Cricket Club.
St.Annes Golf Club.
You are now leaving St.Annes!
You are now entering Lytham
This sign, in Lytham, tells you how to get to St.Annes (which is not Lytham).
On your way, to St.Annes, you might pass This Windmill. It's called the Lytham Windmill. Because it's in Lytham.
Then, all of a sudden, you're in St.Annes again.
Call here to view a map.
Then get back home to Wigan and Leigh!

It was still the steps up to the 'Cong' when I lived in the locality.
Though I have been in a few times. When I used to visit my late mother, she often chose to dine there. (I guess because it was my late brother's local, and often she would find there folk whom she knew.)
Not offering any comment about the food, but the place was so dirty that we used to take with us a wet soapy dishcloth in a plastic bag, to wipe the sticky food/drink splattered table top. I am not saying the staff did not wipe them, just too superficially to make any difference.

Things are different when you are having to indulge your aging mother. It was she who wanted to eat there and decided she needed to take her own dishcloth. As I have indicated, I think it was for social reasons, and I chose not to deprive of that.
