Not seen ours yet, due anytime. 1 year we had Dad dining every night, then after a month or so, Mum appeared too. The before they disapeared, they both turned up with 4 hoglets, firing into the mealworm. Never seen this happen since. Its as though they brought the family along to let us have a look :)

Tom,
Think yourself lucky it isn’t it’s big cousin, the porcupine. We had one in our Apple tree one Sunday night. Around 20” long and 20lbs. plus. It got next doors dogs. Off to the vet to have the quills removed. They are barbed at the end so can’t just be pulled out.

broady, I hear coyotes are a bigger problem and of course bears in some districts over yonder, I would say foxes are our biggest nuisance critter here , You might be amazed that Mink, have been seen round the flashes along with deer, I'm lucky that an hedgehog has come to my garden, not so lucky that, umpteen cats come round and shit in my garden, they are definitely not welcome,

Never a problem here cats. Cats have to be licensed and the By Laws state they are not allowed to roam. It is a topic of conversation if you saw the same one twice. Coyotes are more of a problem at dawn and dusk. I certainly hear more than I see. We had a lynx/ Bob Cat in our street once.

I've seen Mink which were nesting on the River Irwell in Ramsbottom. Never on the Ribble, though, and one of my mates has the Ribble going through his back garden!

How doo yoo stop a cat roaming ?

Mink are a pest, having been brought in from North America, they are killing off our UK Water Vole population

Grey Squirrels are also a pest, and they have also invaded from North America, and they have decimated our indigenous Red Squirrel population

I have two cat deterrents that make a high pitched sound if they dare to come in my garden, don't like cats, one house near me the cats spray on his step & he has to use bleach & hot water to get rid of smell

yea, A BIG problem, they go round peoples gardens, trampling on the flowers, peeing and pooing all over the place and its very unpleasant for the gardener, owners of cats should be made responsible like dog owners mostly are,

My cat would come in from the garden,go on his litter tray then go back out again..so not guilty.
Must say,I love cats.
I must add when anyone gets a tom cat they're usually an entire cat..they're the ones that keep spraying..there should be a law whereas the owner must have them neutered.

Some people get cats and then just let them go anywhere, they seem to think that they can't be trained like a dog...wrong..when you get a new kitten, you keep them in,continually putting them on the litter tray until they get the message..a cat will always go where the smell of their own wee is.
A neighbour of mine keeps her cat in all day only letting it out at night,of course the cat will know where the little birds are nesting ..some folk haven't the brains to own an animal.

its mostley on my garden where they cause problems, You can see them crossing the road at night going from garden to garden, One day a young girl knocked on my front door, She was all upset because a cat ran out of my garden and was going to the garden acroos the road but never got there, the girl had run over it, she brought it to me thinking it was mine, I said, " well done you, can you run some more down, " I'll never forget her face, she was kind of relieved I was't angry but kind of, set back by my flippancy,

Tom I wonder if those black cat ornaments work, they come in packs of three..the only snag is of course that it's you who has to pay for them.

I think everyone knows that the poo of lions tigers etc keep cats away..seeing as there's no zoos around here..wouldn't you have thought some clever folk would have come up with a product derived from the poo..in pellet form for example.
Surely they must have thought about it.

I've just found this on Google..'Silent Roar' pellets made from the dung of big cats..£8-99.

I tried cat repellant, that did't work, Someone told me, they don't like marigolds, so I grew a load of those one year but to no avail, The best deterrent I've found is ME, I've been in the front and a cat is coming across the road in my direction, as soon as I move, the cat will freeze, they truly have a sixth sense,, Before I get to the door, the cat is gone,
