Earl of Crawford who lived down the road at Haigh Hall was a Scotsman, and he brought his staff from Bonnie Scotland and housed them in that area which became knows as Little Scotland

Little Scotland gained its name due to the number of Scottish Navies, that camped there during the excavation of the canal. (By hand) The majority came fro Aberdeen hence Aberdeen Bridge , Aberdeen Farm. The House was originally The Boatsmans Inn that served the workers It still has the snug and beer cellar.

Forgot to add Scottish influence around the same time was further enhanced when Scottish Navigators and Navies built the railways around the area

Well if I was working long hours building a canal, I would have set up my camp as close as possibly to the work site, and not two miles away.
Any road my great great grandad told me the canals and the railways and the M6 motorway were built mostly by Irish navvies.

There’s a Little London in Wigan too so I’m wondering if the place names might not necessarily be directly linked to who lived there? (Thread)

There was a place called Irish Town at the top of Belle Green Lane, Higher Ince, but I don’t think it became a formal name.

Black Horse before Henrys, but at that time the farmer Peter Castelli only had cows.
