My dad always said when someone did not understand anything they were thick or daft as a pit prop. Which is right?
Replied: 7th May 2013 at 19:04
Didn't the great Gullicks go t--s up? Bit like Wiggin toneet...
Replied: 7th May 2013 at 23:29
They were bought out by a US based company, for about £300 million. The business is still going strong.

Wonder when photos of Triangular Volvos, er Triangle Valves will be posted on the Album, or maybe it was so latheing and boring no one could be reamered to do so.
Replied: 8th May 2013 at 14:06
Maybe they would have been Calipered in the managers office for industrial espionage by taking photos, or maybe they could have ended up in a top shelf magazine, naked valves could well appeal to folks of a certain calibre.
Whilst having a Google it came up with this:
MULTI-SHAT GAS TURBINE
Wonder how many shillings in the meter that would take to run.
Replied: 8th May 2013 at 14:27
Full shillings?
I'll summon an estimator.
That magazine sounds interesting.

Joy mining (Gullicks) has moved it's main depot To Worcester, and kept a small depot at Ince.
Remind me what happened to the Valve Jarvo.
Replied: 9th May 2013 at 11:59
So what happened to the 2,000 employees at Ince?
And why did it happen?
Replied: 9th May 2013 at 12:19
Dustaf, in answer to your earlier question of who said 'pot prips', - wasn't it the Spitting Image puppet of Arthur Scargill ?.
I was at Gullicks for a short time circa 1981, working in the drawing office. I have fond memories of the place but the problem I had was that the NCB, as it was then, would allocate its budget early in the year so by spring the orders for pot prips would come in thick and fast. the office would be really busy with overtime being worked and it was 'hey lads hey and Jack-me-hearty'. Then by the end of the year the orders dried up and it was a 4 day week. Not the best situation when you're trying to bring up a family.
Replied: 9th May 2013 at 13:55
What happened to the 2,000 employees at Ince, Jarvo ,is that Thatcher shut the pits down so Gullicks had no one to sell to.
Did you not know?
Replied: 9th May 2013 at 14:03
Spot on, Raymyjamie.
It was a Spitting Image skit suggesting Scargill didn't know owt about the real coal face. Think he pronounced 'spade', 'spad-i' or 'spad-e'.
Meanwhile, over on Album:

Typical dumb Wigginers, blaming Thatcher for shutting the mighty Gullicks...Tut, tut...
The reality is: The roof supports were sourced from overseas.
As for a £300 million buy out, well, it didn't say much for the engineers that lost their jobs after, did it?
Like I have reiterated before, my company thrived under Thatcher; but then again, we moved with technology. And still do to this day.
Gullicks my arse!
Replied: 10th May 2013 at 07:32
Aye move with technology, it's the only way to go.
