Hoping you can help me with my reserach or vice versa. I have joined ancestry so I can do census lookups if you give me names, places and approximate ages. Anyway, on my fathers's side we are Rigby's originating from Wigan. My Grandfather was Ernest Rigby b Wigan 1914. He died last year. He married Lilian Laithwaite (another good Wigan surname) b Wigan 1919. Ernest's parents were George Rigby b Wigan c1872 and Mary Ann Taylor b Staffordshire c 1875. Mary was George's second wife. They had two sons: Clifford and Ernest. George's first wife was called Elizabeth (maiden name possibly Crook). They had at least 4 children: Stuart, Frederick, Mary Alice and Margaret. We have lost touch with this part of the family so it would be great if any of you were related to them (it's unlikely they are still alive themsleves as my grandad was the youngest child and he died last year). I think they all lived in the Platt Bridge area at some time. Mary Alice was a shop assistant at Whittles wool shop on Dallington Street and married John (k/a Jack) Mercer. Margaret (k/a Maggie) married Harold Hilton As fa as I can work out, George's parents were Thomas Rigby b c1838, Pemberton and Mary Ann b Kirkham. George had at least 2 siblings: Joshua Rigby bc 1864 and Mary Alice b c1881. George was a coal miner as were his oldest sons Stuart and Fred. George was also a talented sportsman: he played rugby for Wigan and was capped for Lancashire.
