Loves Labour Lost

Loves Labour Lost
1. He's on the prowl.
2. He's found his hearts desire.
3. Ho No! She has failed to succumb to his dubious charms and she's off!

Now these are good photos, well done Dennis.
I rode over that very spot this afternoon and , they all took off leaving a shower of feather, I was spitting feathers all the way home.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 30th June 2025 at 05:57

Perhaps Miss Pigeon is playing the "femme fatale" like in Bobby Goldsborough's "Summer the First Time"....." 'Twas a hot afternoon, on the last day of June, and the sun was a demon' ". What a haunting song that is!

Comment by: Mark on 30th June 2025 at 07:22

Their known as flying rats, they damage buildings and parks with droppings everywhere. Please do not feed them even in Town. Some Councils dish out fines if seen feeding them, remember cameras are everywhere. I would put stray pigeons in the vermin
categories. We are also being invaded with woodpigeons in our gardens, taking over the garden bird tables and feeders. Very messy birds.

Comment by: Sue on 30th June 2025 at 07:30

I love birds but not pigeons or seagulls. They look so colourful and innocent but live dirty lives and can destroy farmland and open spaces.
Thanks Dennis.

Our resident pair of wood pigeons give us endless amusement when doing their courtship ritual....'he' never gets the message that 'she' doesn't want to know !

Comment by: Tony on 30th June 2025 at 08:12

But Labour's never lost in Wigan, Nandi's proof of that !!!

Comment by: Julie on 30th June 2025 at 08:22

Awful dirty scruffy creatures.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 30th June 2025 at 08:52

Mark's comment spot on, do not encourage pigeons by feeding them, especially in public spaces.

Comment by: Roylew on 30th June 2025 at 08:52

They do seem to be more in abundance now than ever….I hate their incessant gawbling (if that’s the word)

Comment by: Veronica on 30th June 2025 at 08:59

They look like they’re line dancing to ‘Cotton Eye Joe’..

Comment by: Merlin on 30th June 2025 at 09:28

Pigeons lead Filthy lives, I mean what's the point of strays. They poo all over the place not stop, Racing and homing pigeons yes but not these.
Sorry but that's my opinion.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 30th June 2025 at 10:22

Scruffy they may be, but they are survivors and when the day comes for us humans to give up our lease on this planet I’m sure the Pigeons will still be there to wave us goodbye.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 30th June 2025 at 10:33

That made me laugh, Veronica, about the line dancing.....spot on! I don't mind pigeons at all.....we all see things differently.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 30th June 2025 at 11:19

When you consider the awful mess we humans have made of this Planet I don’t think we are in a position to criticise any other species. We are not exactly speaking from the moral high ground are we?

Comment by: Sue on 30th June 2025 at 11:44

These are good photos put together in a sequence with a comment. I have to say that they dont capture the magnificent countryside atmosphere of yesterdays photo which was exceptional.

Comment by: John Bensons on 30th June 2025 at 11:50

Only some people Dennis. I agree with you to some point. We are over crowded especially in recent months and years. We never control our borders ,hospitals are full, prisons full, schools full, can't get a doctors appointment and our road are blocked.forget pigeons lets think about our beloved Country. It's seriously got out of control.

Comment by: Pw on 30th June 2025 at 11:59

They certainly are adaptable and survivors.I used to shoot woodpigeons for a farmer when it was a lad and give them to folk to eat. They are now in many urban areas and I would never eat one of of those.

Comment by: Alan on 30th June 2025 at 13:24

And, John, Hotels are used as homes paid for by the government.
How dere they tried to stop pip and welfare and they successfully stopped cold weather payments for pensioners.
I can't wait to get Labour voted out of power.

Comment by: Mick on 30th June 2025 at 13:59

You're right, my new best friend Dennis, Pigeons are a lovely bird and have lovely colours and are not shy around us humans, the mess they make is all down a daft women who think they are being kind feeding them a loaf of bread and then wonder why they crap all over the town centres.
Pigeons should live in trees and eat bits of whatever is left from the harvest and berries. If these women stopped feeding them, they would soon be off back to the countryside, its getting the same with our ducks they are crapping more because of the rubbish they are being fed by the human race.

Comment by: Mick on 30th June 2025 at 14:01

No, they don't look like they are line dancing to me.

Comment by: Julie on 30th June 2025 at 14:53

Alan well said my son gets pip as he has autism and learning difficulties as i am also his attorney for his benefits as he cannot work how dare these lot try and do this to the disabled as i am a carer for him i cannot cannot cannot wait until these are voted to out of power.

Comment by: Jean on 30th June 2025 at 15:05

Boy named 'Sue' again???

Comment by: DTease on 30th June 2025 at 16:38

Alan, if you can persuade enough people to agree with you then getting rid of this government will occur in the normal course of events. Until then it is what it is and you will have to put up with it in the same way that the people who wanted rid of the Tories had to put up with them for fourteen years.

Lets not turn this site into a never ending political argument.

Comment by: Mutley on 30th June 2025 at 17:43

John, Alan and Julie fully agree and totally agree. Hopefully this government can learn by their big mistakes.
They seem to like U turns.

Comment by: Pat McC on 30th June 2025 at 19:12

I should imagine that pigeons hold exactly the same view of humans. If pigeons live "filthy lives" then that's all down to us. After all, they developed a taste for pies etc because we, as humans, drop litter and food on pavements etc.

Comment by: Pw on 30th June 2025 at 19:29

They certainly are adaptable and survivors.I used to shoot woodpigeons for a farmer when it was a lad and give them to folk to eat. They are now in many urban areas and I would never eat one of of those.

Comment by: Cyril on 30th June 2025 at 20:13

Veronica, Cotton Eye Joe is good, though I was thinking of the Wigan Slosh, does that still happen in the few clubs that are still open, there was always a group that got up doing the steps etc, and all in time, they looked good too.

Well said Dennis, yes, we as 'humanity' have made a right mess of Gods world, and after being left in charge of it too.

Lisa Nandy made an excellent speech in the Commons regarding the comments made by performers, and the goings on at Glastonbury and the BBC.
It wasn't all that long ago when folks were wishing that Labour was in government.

Comment by: Veronica on 30th June 2025 at 22:40

They just look like they’re instep to me Cyril. Any line dancing music. §;o))

Comment by: Cyril on 1st July 2025 at 16:14

They are Veronica, and lovely and clean with beautiful iridescence on their feathers

Comment by: . Ozy . on 1st July 2025 at 17:56

Howd on Mick ! Only just seen this ….
Last I heard it was me that was your new best friend .
What went wrong ?

Was it summat I said ?

Talk about capricious .

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 1st July 2025 at 19:45

I can assure you Ozy I have done nothing to deserve this highly dubious honour being thrust upon me.
Whatever the crime I am accused of I plead not guilty.
I would like to make it clear to all wiganworld readers that I have not taken leave of my senses and the tic I have developed in my left eye over the last few days has purely medical origins.
