Photo-a-Day (Wednesday, 2nd April, 2025)
Wigan Bus Station
Who would have thought these box things would have taken off like they have
I've been using them since day one but I never thought they would last.
The latest ones in the village of Shevington where i live have been put outside of the Shevington Library, we already have some on the Gathurst for Shevington railway station platform and some outside of the Shevington Coop.
These are the beautiful blossoms that blow everywhere and it’s said by one person “they make people slip on them”!!! Rubbish! They’re only here a short time and I love them…nicer still blowing in the wind.
They are beautiful to look at, but only last days, and if its a day like today windy, only hours.
Is Cheery Blossom shoe Polish still going. Can you still buy it.?
What about brilcream hair cream.
Lovely photo.
These bushes and trees help hide the grot spot behind them
And the added bonus being they aren’t as cold as snowflakes are they Veronica ? … chortle .
Absolutely gorgeous - when you look up through the branches and see the blue sky, it's magical. Wigan is way ahead of us in Pembrokeshire - no sign of any cherry blossoms here yet - still got snowdrops!
Don’t mention the ‘S’ word Ozy ..we hopefully have seen the last of it.
But one never knows with the British weather …at least the Cherry Blossom isn’t sticky and doesn’t adhere to the tops of cars.
Mutley - Cherry Blossom is still with us, in smaller tins and unlike the stuff in the 60s tends to harden quicker once the tin is opened. Brylcreem? Never used it. We used to call it chip fat.
Good photo Dennis, but agree - the flowers are with us just for days.
There is not much sign of it up here in cold windy Wigan Pat, so this morning's PAD could be one taken last year and sent in by mistake.
How odd that you should say that. Pat McC..
I taught my children and grandchildren to look up at a blue sky through blossom. I told them it's of the loveliest sights they will ever see, and it's FREE.
They’re absolutely beautiful to look at,if anything could make the heart sing its images like this.
Yes Irene. It feels like you'43 standing under a beautiful canopy. The colours are superb. Shame it's only a short flowering period; lovely while it lasts though.
Thanks Dennis for this photo.
This photo was taken on Monday 24th of March this year and the blossom as aiready gone.
It’s glorious while it lasts though.
Blossom of any kind is scarce here on th east coast...some May & Blackthorn blossom is out...is May the same as Blackthorn ? Remember the old saying... my Scottsh born Mother always recited this...
'' Nair cast a clout (a vest probably !) till May is out'
Late off the starting block today, went into hiding after yesterday’s pad!!!
Lovely photo Dennis, yes similar to last year’s pic which was equally well received.
Cherry Blossom and Apple Blossom so lovely, and especially as the weather is so gorgeous at the moment and set to continue until Easter.
Makes you realise that Summer is on its way. Feel Good Factor, enjoy while you can.
I’ve heard the saying many a time in Scholes Helen. ‘Clout’ is also a saying for giving someone a thump around the earhole. Needless to say I haven’t heard it for a long while.
My Mam used to say that too, Helen, and I think "clout" meant items of clothing, so don't remove any Winter layers until May is out. Incidentally, a lot of people think "The Darling Buds of May" means buds that appear in the month of May, when it actually means buds of may-blossom. Anyway, it's Perfick!
I’d rather slip on wet petals than dog muck, despite all the warnings these irresponsible dog owners still allow it to happen. Disgusting!
It doesn't last because it doesn't belong here. Some do-gooders might say it's cruel to grow foreign trees and fauna in cold, wet, and windy Britain.
Chris, as I understand it all of us humans migrated from ‘Mother’ Africa to Europe and Asia and eventually due to the Ice Age, the Americas.
So don’t get hot under the collar about a fruit tree, they seem happy enough to me.
Irene is spot on with the origin, many thought it was turning over a sod of grass but not so.
Helen my in-laws tell me they are having glorious weather down in East Anglia, I know the soil is different but surely you have Cherry and Apple trees?
My mother was also quoting the saying "don't cast a clout.." and this included the liberty bodice with rubber buttons ! Can you imagine girls today wearing such a thing!
You are right about liberty-bodices, Pat McC.....wearing one of those was like being steamed!
