Cable Car To Haigh

Cable Car To Haigh
Plans have been put before Wigan Council to construct a Cable Car Transporter from this site at the bottom of Coppull Lane (which you can see on the right) whisking passengers up the Douglas Valley and over Haigh Country Park to a location at the highest point adjacent to Haigh Hall.
A spokesperson for the developers, who wished not to be named, said that Coppull Lane would be widened giving access to a car park for 260 cars along with a cafe and toilets.
At the Haigh Hall terminus a longer term plan is to provide a tower with revolving restaurant and observation deck giving panoramic views as far as the Welsh Mountains the Lake District and Pennines.
A decision on the plans are expected Monday 1st April 2025!

The 1st of many today but in reality it needs some form of transport to get people to Haigh Hall

That's got to be April's fools day.

Comment by: April on 1st April 2025 at 04:45

A bit over the top to try and convince wiganers this will happen. April Fools day I suspect.

Comment by: Malc on 1st April 2025 at 05:43

I don't think Wiganers will fall for this. Happy April Fools day.

Comment by: Mortarmillbill on 1st April 2025 at 05:57

I am in favour of it. I will make a note of the date of the announcement in my diary. Hang on a minute! Colin.........

Comment by: Wigginlad on 1st April 2025 at 06:09

Well done Colin, what date is it ??

Comment by: Sandra on 1st April 2025 at 06:33

Monday 1st April 2025 ??
A give away Colin...
Not a good April fools day is it!

Comment by: Robert on 1st April 2025 at 06:37

If anyone should believe this pad, they are an April fool, but I can't see many.
A bit far fetched.

Comment by: Paddy O’Fool on 1st April 2025 at 06:46

Hope it comes of, you’d be able to see the Blarney Sone in Ireland from that tower.

Comment by: Porky on 1st April 2025 at 07:17

That revolving observation deck would be a good place to launch flying pigs!

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 1st April 2025 at 07:25

I think the date must say it all Colin !

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 1st April 2025 at 07:48

Oh well, worth a try and it got the comments flowing.
Last year I put a post up ‘New Leisure Complex’ and many thought that was an April Fools joke but it was true.
Good idea though, you never know some wealthy philanthropist might pick up on it and make it a reality.

Comment by: Albert on 1st April 2025 at 07:58

I think it true, just read it in The Sun.

Comment by: Kath on 1st April 2025 at 08:14

It so good when you can kid people, then at the end of the day tell them it's April fool. But not this one, it's just over the top and never ever happen in a million years.
Don't under estimated Wiganer.

Comment by: freddie on 1st April 2025 at 08:16

I understand that Mick is going to be friendly and complimentary to people on this page from today!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 1st April 2025 at 08:17

And will there be Spaghetti trees planted in the Douglas Valley? ( you're showing your age if you remember THAT April Fool joke!)

Comment by: Alan on 1st April 2025 at 08:32

You can't fool me on April 1st.

Comment by: Mick on 1st April 2025 at 08:36

It's Tuesday in the part of Wigan where I live.
This is all a fake news. The building work on the Wigan lane gatehouse and a new electric tractor-trailer and Bee buses turning area is well underway.

Comment by: Veronica on 1st April 2025 at 08:49

Good try Colin…I would rather be in a cable car over the Austrian/ Italian Mountains. Only done it once but you can get a taste for it…but not in that locality.

Comment by: Stuart. on 1st April 2025 at 08:53

Colin you'd have been better saying Mick has gone to the Moon and will be back on Christmas eve.
People might have believed it more than your post.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 1st April 2025 at 09:04

Mick, I think it had something to do with winding the clocks forward, that’s my excuse.
When you get to a certain age you rarely know what day it is, let alone what year it is!

Comment by: Hilda B on 1st April 2025 at 09:19

I was only saying to our Cynthia the other day I keep telling Colin to get that little finger replaced on his calendar.

Comment by: Kath H on 1st April 2025 at 09:24

That’s very naughty Colin. The dam is just behind where I live. I thought OMG until I read the last line and realized the date.

Comment by: WN6 on 1st April 2025 at 09:58

Just drove back from Wigan and there’s a BBC camera crew filming all the protesters at The top of Coppull Lane chanting ‘No to the cable car and No to the car park’.
What have you done Colin.

Comment by: John(Howfen) on 1st April 2025 at 10:03

You certainly fooled me Colin I’m not in the swing yet.

Comment by: Sir Bob on 1st April 2025 at 10:51

Veronica

Why don't you want to soar over the lower and upper plantations to Haigh Hall ?

Comment by: Veronica on 1st April 2025 at 12:14

I would rather go on the tractor through the plants…I’d get more enjoyment from that - reliving my youth your lordship. ;o)

Comment by: Maureen on 1st April 2025 at 16:32

Veronica, thought I’d tell you ..re our chat about breaking bones..well now I’ve broke my wrist..very painful, and it’s not a joke.

Comment by: John (Howfen) on 1st April 2025 at 17:22

Speedy recovery Maureen .

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 1st April 2025 at 17:37

Sorry to hear that, Maureen, (sorry for butting in). Hope your wrist heals quickly. xxx

Comment by: Veronica on 1st April 2025 at 17:55

Oh! That’s bad luck Maureen I hope you are coping whichever arm it is. Bones are more fragile the older we get. Hopefully it will get better soon. At least you can still get about... Your gardening will be on hold though…..I’ve been out all afternoon there’s always something to do at this time of the year.

Comment by: Mike W on 1st April 2025 at 19:26

Ah, .but of course, its the 1st of April. The day when people choose to question everything they read and see both in the media and on the internet. Its a great pity such caution is not exercised on the remaining 364 days of the year.

Comment by: Maureen on 2nd April 2025 at 10:01

Thank you all..wouldn’t care,I’ve been wanting a power washer for yonks, finally got one..now I have to wait for seven more weeks before I can use it.
