May I wish all Wiganworlders at home and around the World A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. Thanks are due to Brian,Ron and all the volunteers and contributors who make Wigan World what it is . The same message as last year and the years before ,but no less heartfelt for that !
BEST WISHES everyone, John, it should have said "KAEW YED CITY" Ray owd lad, good to see your comment yesterday. From the wild of North Yorkshire to all WW fans best wishes for the New Year.
Merry Christmas to all my friends at Wigan World, they know who they are, and to all who turn out in all weather's taking these wonderful photos in and around Wigan. I used to have a pint in there in the 1970s and it was lovely and of course a coalfire to greet you during the cold Winter months.
Well it's cold out there on this Christmas morning so it's time to make my coalfire, then toast and Sherry later. Take care you wonderful people, love reading all you comments. X
Lovely Christmassy photo, Dennis......Let's pretend we're all just about to meet up in there for a drink in front of a coal fire.....would we know each other without introductions, I wonder? I DO know Veronica, Ron, Tom Walsh, Elizabeth , Maureen and Ozy but FEEL that I know everyone else. Garry, (welcome back!), would be the one ordering a sherry, and putting some more coal on the fire, ("yes, and you go out and buy another coal-scuttle, and you do that before you dot another "i", Bob Cratchit!"). Cheers, everyone, and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you all, nice to hear from you Garry and know that your well and in fine spirits or should that be Sherry.
A Very Happy Christmas to you too Garry & all the PADs. Thanks & good wishes to Brian & Ron for such a wonderful website .
Happy Christmas everybody ! X
Merry Christmas to everybody and a big Thank You to all the snappers who turn out in all weathers. Nice to see posts from Tom Walsh and Garry especially. Have a lovely day all. xxx
The Christmas display is an improvement on yesterday’s. Why is Father Christmas hiding behind the tree? Methinks. He’s been blown up…Great picture. Ho,Ho, Ho…
A Very Merry Christmas to you all and so glad to hear from Garry and that he is stoking up his fire.
Special best wishes to Brian and Ron Hunt for their continued dedication to WW.
Turkey is in the oven ready for our family get together, hope you will all have a lovely day.
Yet another good photo of Aspull Dennis i have loved photos of Aspull all the year Merry christmas to everyone on wigan world.
Great photo of The Moorgate Dennis. Don’t think they used to decorate it like that when we were kids. Merry Christmas.
No instructions came with the Turkey, no one told me you had to kill it before you put it in the oven.
You’ll be pleased to know it’s now running around in the garden, a bit singed and disgruntled but quite happy!!
Kath H. I think it was far better in the past when the decorations were nearly all inside tree streamers etc with perhaps merry Xmas signs on the windows. I have mentioned here before that when when growing up in Wigan in the 1950s and early 60s many people ( certainly all my family, plus neighbours and friends) would only put up the tree etc 0on Xmas Eve - to come down on 6 January. The sense of excitement was wonderful. Today trees sometimes go up in November and certainly many will be down tomorrow on Boxing day.
Rant over Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.
Great photo and many thanks to all the happy snappers out there. Nice to know that your well Garry, I'll have a Sherry with you later. Merry Christmas everyone.
Merry Christmas to all at Wigan World, hope your well Garry, and Rev Long.
Keep up the good spirits.
Merry Christmas to Brian, Ron and the WW team, and everyone.
I'm not too sure who Garry is, but all the best pal. Lovely photo on Christmas day.
Good to hear from you Garry and I’m glad to know that you are still enjoying a roaring coal fire and a glass of sherry.
All the best to everyone involved with Wiganworld and I am looking forward to more wonderful photos of wonderful Wigan next year.
Dennis the Moorgate was my favourite pub in the eighties when Trevor and Anne were running it,I could spend all night talking to Trevor’s Dad and Bob Sumner great place and great people.Walt I did think that about Keay Yead City Veronica knows the proper way to spell it better than me,blimin predicted tx cheers and merry Christmas to all especially Brian who does all the work behind the scenes .
I dont like these cheap looking blown up Christmas decorations, last week one house near me had a deflated snowman at their front door and the charity plastic bag collection man thought it was a donation and attempted to pick it up.
The Turkey (which call Nellie) is out of the oven and ‘resting’ however I am a bit concerned as there is a lot of squeaking coming from under the tin foil, I’m sure this is normal but could it still be alive!!
Family should be arriving soon for Christmas Dinner. Don’t forget to raise your glasses to absent friends and relatives, these days there are all too many of them but fortunately we are here to celebrate their memory and al the good times.
Enjoy your day XXX to all.
Merry Christmas to Brian and Ron and everyone at Wigan World. Thank you for this great site, it brings people together.
Nice to know Garry is safe and well and hope Reverend David Long is ok too.
I think I'll try a nice sherry with my xmas dinner.
Colin’s Live turkey last see heading south on the M6 heading towards Norfolk. Helen should expect a bit of gobbling at her door tonight, not carol singers.
Merry Christmas to everyone on PAD.
Merry Christmas to all at Wigan World. In the late 1960s and early 1970s I was a regular it the Moorgate.
Frank Whittle was landlord then, helped by his wife Doris, their daughter Christine occasionally was seen in the pub too.
Happy Christmas everyone, have a peaceful and restful day.
Happy Christmas it'll all bi gone tomorrow. Lovely pub.
