Whelley Loop Line
Photo: David (Panasonic DMC-FZ330)
It's going to be great, David, It's a shame it can't go all the way to Adlington; maybe they will divert users to use the canal bank for a bit.
The old Robin Hill to Gidlow coal wash is also being done, so when it's finished you will be able to come out of the rear entrance of Mesnes Park, then use the two new road crossing and some quiet streets and into the fields at the back of Gidlow Cemetery and all the way up to Standish.
It’s good that these paths are made for cyclists. A safer environment for them. At least the tracks are being made useful instead of being overgrown. I wouldn’t like to cycle on the main roads these days.
This track as been done before. They cleared the track, fixed the drainage and then left it to go to rack and ruin again. Unless they build a couple of bridges it cannot go much further than Hall Lane and it certainly cannot cross Twenty Bridges, so I wonder what the plans are?
Progress!
Agree with Big Harold, pity it won't reach Adlington - but Adlington is in Lancashire these days, not GM.
That’s good news David hopefully try it next year but don’t you think they would get the town centre done and offer free parking if you spent some money there, somehow don’t think that will happen but worth a try as it’s too easy to order online with free delivery.
Good photo David and useful info Big H.
The loop line is great for the walkers, runners, cyclists, and horse riders. At the risk of sounding ungrateful to Wigan Council, could it be better?
It's a shame about that big new sign at the Cannon Sharples (school) end/section, advertising it as... multi use.
To me the new council sign now makes it look very inviting and encouraging for the... motorcyclists!
They seem to love it on there and must think it's OK now for them to fly past those school gates, where little kiddies come out onto the loop line. Not that they seemed that bothered before. Surely a no motorcycles sign would have been better? Room for improvement in the maintenance of certain sections.
End of grumble. Be safe on the on the cycle track.
I was going to put a favourable comment on this photo but I've no doubt a certain commenter will criticise anything I say, as they did on yesterday's p-a-d. Oddly, those criticisms are always added at the END of the day when most regulars don't see them. I haven't the faintest idea why I seem to be singled out by this person. I wish I understood his motives but I am at a loss as to what I have done to deserve it. Sorry for going off the subject, Dave, and everyone.
It doesn't matter how many signs and gates you put up the motorbike riders will still find a way to get in.
And you will have many more motorbikers after Christmas because Father Christmas will have brought them a new one.
The only way to stop them is if they get reported ( grass them up ) by their neighbours and their bikes get crushed, it might take a few years. But eventually, dirt bikes will vanish.
It’s anything for a reaction Irene. He’s like a cracked record.
You're right Veronica and I apologise to everyone for letting him make me react instead of ignoring him. Sorry everyone. Dave, I walked along there one day some years ago and it was lovely......just dappled sunlight on the path as it came through the trees, and I thought of the days when steam trains would have thundered through. It would be lovely if you could add another photo when the work is done, just showing the quiet pathway under the trees, perhaps in Summer when they are in full leaf. Thankyou.
The more paths the better and it would be wonderful if extended to Adlington.
Irene, keep your chin up love, whoever that is should be more considerate, if not banned.
There are, or should be standards of respect to be maintained. Your contributions over the years are most interesting and valued.
Irene, I suspect that Big Harold is another alias for Mick.
DTease, a number of people have said that same thing over the last week or so. Thanks, Colin; I love it on here and enjoy commenting and reading others' comments. I won't let him stop me from doing that.
Irene sweetheart. You're praising the chippies and I'm saying the prices go up when they have 40s weekends.
You're saying they don't and that locals wouldn't stand for it. But your forgetting the locals can't get out of their houses on these weekends if they do want to buy a chippy tea.
Our clock has stopped, so I'm not sure of the exact time I'm posting this message, but I should imagine it's just after teatime, so not at the end of the night.
We’ve known a while Dtease. You can’t mistake him no matter what he calls himself. It’s a change from ‘bike pump’ or anything else attributed to bikes. I think ‘bike pump’ suited him.
Yes, it's teatime, and so you called me Sweetheart and spoke to me nicely. If that could carry on we wouldn't have a problem. Even if your clock has stopped, (I have no cause to disbelieve you as we too have a clock that has to be wound up with a key and sometimes stops ), there should be a notification of the time on your computer/mobile phone or whatever device you use to access photo-a-day.
Good photo David, it'll be just the job when done for dog owners to take their dogs for a good run along there.
Irene, so Big Harold's clock stopped - well he's got a face that'd stop a clock. Here he is -

Never mind him - keep on commenting.
The council Anti Social Behaviour web page has s 'grassing them up' option.

Irene I fully agree with Colin ignore Harold he’s like a bad smell that won’t go away and isn’t happy at home like we all are .
I do not think extending the loop line pathway is a good idea. The plantations are in a sorry state already. There is lots of litter, dog mess and yobbos on mountain bikes and motorbikes tearing up the tracks. Making the plantations more accessible will make matters worse.
Jim lad if more decent people use the plantations, the yobbos will keep away.
John boy oh John boy please do that by stop inviting me on your bike rides and meet ups at Paul's because I'm not interested.
