Wrightington Fish Pond

Wrightington Fish Pond
You would almost think this was moonlight but it is Winters midday sun!
Shortly after I took the picture the sky went dark and a brief snow flurry covered the frozen patches on the water with a dusting of white.

A place which never gets a lot of birds on or around the lake. The photo looks very atmospheric and I like how it looks more of a black and white shot than colour. The sun just about reflecting off the waters edge

When I was a boy in the 1940.s living in Roby Mill, the students from the Catholic College walked through the village all the way to Wrightington to skate on the fish pond and back again in the afternoon.

With all the razzmatazz of doughnuts, sausages & bright new shop its very nice to see a calm & peaceful scene...nice one Colin !

Strange but beautiful. It reminds me of when we had an eclipse of the sun some years ago. I took our dog up to Abram Park. There was nothing overly dramatic about the few moments I was there, but it went very quiet and ethereal, with a slight chill to the air before the sun reappeared, and that photo reminds me of it.

Stunning photo. Could be a painting, a work of art. Beautiful Colin.

It just reminds me we have a long way to go before Spring. The land is still ‘sleeping’ a brief calm to catch a breath before another storm rolls in.

'Twilight on the frozen lake ,
The north wind about to break ,
Footprints in the snow ,
Silence down below .....'

I was just listening to this Bob Dylan song when I clicked on today's PaD .
Beautiful picture Colin .

It got me thinking that a certain young lady by the name of Anne (with an e) Shirley from Prince Edward Island my have romanticised that it looks like ‘A glowing Opal above a lake of shining waters’.

Makes me think about the Wrightington hospital dances in the 60s and having a cuddle next to the lake with a Malaysian nurse

Well captured plunging into the depths of darkness and a little spooky very close to Yule.

Looking forward to our team of P-A-D snappers returning in anticipation of Witches, Druids and Wiccans prancing about on the longest night, celebrating the rebirth of the sun.

The weather was fine on the day of that eclipse Irene. I was out tinkering with my vehicle and remember the birds were chirping. Suddenly it went very dull and all the birds switched off together, dead silent.
Soon as it came bright all the birds kicked off singing again, as one. It was weired.

The mini earthquake some years ago was another story. That was a strange experience too.

Oops!.. Weird.

TD, it was exactly like that here...quite eerie, I was in the garden. The birds went quiet, it seemed to get chilly, as if dusk was falling & the world was standing still. Then all came to life again.

Sorry about the time Colin but great photo as usual that’s got to be the pond/lake on the left heading for Wigan I used to park the truck facing Wrightington hospital and walk to those ponds when not under pressure late 60ties the road seems to be wider now as no where to pull in.

Comment by: Big Harold. on 11th December 2024 at 05:26

It's the pond on the right if you are heading towards Wigan.
Sorry about the time, why is there a time limit for on making a comment.

Comment by: John (westhoughton) on 11th December 2024 at 10:10

Harold? I don’t suppose there’s a time limit and you being a local will know better than I,albet you know which side of Oldham Road,Manchester WingYip is when collecting your shopping ?

Comment by: Big Harold on 11th December 2024 at 11:44

Yes, I know all that, John; in fact, we are just catching a train to Manchester to get some Chinese stuff, but we will be in Chinatown. I only go to Oldham Road when I'm driving.

John, you can comment anytime you want to. In the middle of the night or the early hours of the morning it makes no difference. Folk in Australia are 12 hours in front! ( I think!) That doesn’t stop them posting or anywhere else in the world.
Ps don’t be miss-led who’s who.
Owd deputy possibly old bikes and prams.

Thank you Veronica, a trap was set and turned out to be fruitful especially with one of those ailiases so they are at the bottom of the class and not as clever as they thought, I do appreciate your support.

Comment by: Big Harold on 12th December 2024 at 05:54

John, you should put your name down for the 1% club quiz show.

My daughter thinks the same Harold but I don’t.
