A beautiful appearance.

Blooming lovely …Roses in December….I hope the shop does well.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 9th December 2024 at 08:09

People mainly use the Makinson Arcade these days as a cut-through to the bus station, but the cafe down there always seems popular so let's hope people will stop and look at this eye-catching and colourful new venture, and hopefully buy from it. Good Luck, Grace Accessories.

It’s very pleasing to see when some shop owners like this make an effort with their shop front appearances and window displays. Something all too lacking these days.

Plastic roses.

Comment by: Peter on 9th December 2024 at 09:30

It's an all plastic flower shop. One thing about it , they'll last.

Comment by: John (westhoughton) on 9th December 2024 at 09:55

Dennis Miss Grace is one of my favourite songs great memories.

Comment by: Ann on 9th December 2024 at 10:06

I much prefer plastic flowers, they last longer. Some plastic flowers look very much real.

One for the Ladies and good luck. T. D. Won't be visiting or 'Funky Figures' next door either, seems they sell American candy.
Personally wouldn't waste money on American candy... it's rubbish!

I tried in vain to get an aspidistra when my "old faithful" popped its clogs a few months ago but no luck..... I was told they don't sell because they're old-fashioned. I had had it for 30 years and it had belonged to someone else before me so goodness knows how old it is. I managed to find an artificial one on Amazon and it looks fantastic! I kept the old plant-pot so I could "plant" the artificial one in the soil, and lo and behold, I've got some new leaves coming up!

All are imported from China including the toffee in the shop next door.

Comment by: Veronica on 9th December 2024 at 11:40

It looks like the roses are made from silk..not plastic. Very popular in Hairdressers as well.

Colin, you're absolutely right about the lovely appearance of this shop. If you look at some of the so called mini market shops, the window are plastered with advertising decals about junk food their selling. Not for me.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 9th December 2024 at 13:44

Nice that they have really
made the shop look inviting. Browsers Welcome according to the notice board...so go in ladies, have a look & wish them well in their new venture. Everybody needs a bit of encouragement these days to start a business.

Comment by: Pw on 9th December 2024 at 14:02

Agree Helen and good luck to them.If shops are left empty some moan about that.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 9th December 2024 at 14:37

Well, we've had a proper "photo-a-day" day today....I had to go to The Linacre for blood tests yet again, (sometimes it feels like I will be on their Christmas Card list! ), and we saw the shop above AND the doughnut stall and the German Sausage stall that have appeared on p-a-d these last few days. I would have had a look in Grace Accessories, Helen, but Peter wouldn't have appreciated the handbags and bows on display, (I should have gone in left him outside!). However, there were quite a few ladies in looking round. It is quite small but very well-stocked and colourful.

Comment by: Meg on 9th December 2024 at 14:45

The lady who owns this shop has moved here from her stall in the Market Hall. She sells hats, handbags and all kinds of accessories for ladies. Every good wish to her in her new, beautifully decorated location but sadly it means another empty stall in the Market.

The front of this shop looks lovely and the roses look so real..there are more shops springing up in the arcade which lightens the spirit ..Irene,I’m having to pay a visit to the Linacre again for more blood tests.

Comment by: Alan on 9th December 2024 at 16:54

Irene it's much better to go and have a
blood test at Leigh infirmary. Trust me, I've been to both and Leigh is much better and easier, especially free parking in the Avenue, and is much closer to Abram. Next time, book a place on line.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 9th December 2024 at 17:14

Irene, so sorry about your aspidistra, after thirty year you must have grown attached. Don’t know if you ever took it for a walk or let it sleep on the bed but hope you and Peter have it a good send off.
Someone one once said that you could roll up the dried leaves and smoke them, or I might be getting confused with that holiday in Jamaica. :-)))

Comment by: Maureen on 9th December 2024 at 17:29

Irene, just a note to say that I paid Greg’s a visit.got two veggie sausage rolls.sat on a bench nearby ate one and really enjoyed one then down to Iceland for Greggs sausage rolls..frozen..so don’t need much more food in..I wonder if we get paid for advertising their wares.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 9th December 2024 at 19:27

Colin, as I said, I kept the soil in the aspidistra pot and have now got three new leaves growing.....I can't believe it! Maureen, glad you liked the Vegan sausage rolls from Gregg's....hope you got Vegan sausage rolls from Iceland, and didn't buy the sausage=meat ones......they're delicious but I know you're not a meat eater. They also do Gregg's frozen Vegan Bakes at Iceland.

The day that shops open in Wiggin offering quality useful stuff at reasonable prices that aren’t produced in
China , or aren’t red in colour , practically useless , and targeted at the female market …
Then that’s the day you may possibly see me down Wiggin .

Until then , the best chance of catching a glimpse of Ozy will be at ********** market .

The asterisks are there to dissuade you oiks from queering my pitch .

However … best wishes to whichever misguided individual determined that flogging car boot quality tat at Regent street prices in Wiggin , of all places , was a good idea .

I’ll give the place six months .

Comment by: Maureen on 9th December 2024 at 22:30

Yes Irene,I did get the vegan sausage rolls from Iceland,am going to have one tomorrow.

Comment by: Big Harold on 10th December 2024 at 18:22

Is it no wonder why our hospital waiting rooms are full when Wigan folk are are on such poor diets.
It's the children and grandchildren of these people I feel sorry for.
