Gathurst Hill
What a lovely, peaceful scene, and what an isolated house.....it must be very quiet living there.
Lovely photo Mick.
Irene, not as isolated as you might think.
It’s on the busy Gathurst Road just up from under the railway bridge and Gathurst Station.
The red brick house once belonged to Dr McFaul from Shevington Surgery, I went to his house a few times in the 1980’s.
Little house on the Prairie comes to mind. Or perhaps a BIG detached …it’s well hidden.
Colin, I remember Dr. MacFaul from the surgery in Standish when I worked in the chemists there, and I also saw him at Billinge Maternity Hospital when I was expecting my son. He was a lovely man.
How lovely Mick. Thank you.
Lovely blue sky and lush green fields a very relaxing scene.
Would anyone fancy a pie rolling race down yon steep hill ?
They do run a similar event in Gloucester starting with a wheel of cheese rolled from the top of a hill. You then race after it, going A over T along the way.
Experts recon a large pork pie could reach a similar speed of 70 mph before hitting the bottom.
Good fun and the winner gets to take the pie home as first prize.
Nice photo Mick.
Mick was this good photo took from the canal?
Not "well hidden" by any description. Like already stated, it's fronting onto a very busy road plus and the M6 motorway running behind it.
A very English scene, still a green & pleasant land, yet some would love it to be covered in bricks.
Good photo Mick.
Plenty of Himalayan Balsam and Brambles along there Mick, that'll keep the Bees and other insects buzzing along and very happy through the winter.
Are there still boarding kennels around there? if so I'd imagine the dogs would be barking in the night, specially when hearing screeches with foxes doing their thing and foxtrotting here and about.
Some folks malign Himalayan Balsam, but it is very beneficial to a lot of British wildlife, have a read of Frank's blog:

I am not familiar with that area hence my mistake about it being quiet and isolated. I wasn't to know that a busy road and a motorway are nearby; I could only comment on what I can see. It's a very pleasant scene.
John (W) I think it was more likely taken from a train on the Southport line but perhaps Mick will confirm.
Splendid that those trees will absorb the fumes from the motorway.
Cheers Colin
A lorry came crashing off the M6 at this spot a few years ago.
I don't know about Dr MacFaul, but Dickinson (of the bottlers) lived in that house in the early 1990's.
