The Old Road

The Old Road
The Golf Course at Haigh. The dip in the ground underneath the trees is where the original road ran up to the Hall.

What, no comments ??
Have the Aliens finally landed ?
Poor Dennis, tramping all that way to take a photo & no one says anything ?
Anyway, I like bits of hidden history so liked looking at the pic & imagining.

I never knew there was
another hidden road to the Hall. Interesting fact …was it the road to the original hall built before the one now? Just wondering.

Interesting photo Dennis but where did this road commence from and where did it exit near Haigh Hall?

Dennis, would that have been from Hall Lane and where the Lodge and gates still are. I remember reading that James Lindsay, 7th Earl of Balcarres had Haigh Cottage built, which also is off Hall Lane, and where he and the family resided whilst the present hall was being built between 1827 and 1840. https://media.onthemarket.com/properties/3204408/doc_0_0.pdf

Hall Lane being the main entrance to the hall before the gates, lodges and road from Wigan Lane to the hall were built.

Cyril, I have looked through those gates on Hall Lane at Haigh Cottage on a sunny day.
From the glimpse you see of the house it looks lovey. I would love to take walk around the grounds but would be far too polite to ask.
I will check out these links tomorrow, thank you.

That garswood.com is a load of rubbish. Full of false information and is, like it introduces itself as being, "full of nonsense".

Dennis time stands still for no man, with those well established trees you would never have guessed there had been a road there.
