I hate motorways !
The original concept was good but now its all gone to pot...just to much traffic for it to work as it should....& don't mention the M25 & the Dartford Crossing, whichever way its always mayhem.
The flowers must denote a death somewhere nearby.

Comment by: Arthur on 8th September 2024 at 08:01

Helen what would the traffic be like without Motorways. What should have happened if the government had brains is to convert out disused railways in to roads, the infrastructure was almost there.

Comment by: Veronica on 8th September 2024 at 08:33

Give me the Railway any day….when they are running on time. Coming back from Cornwall was awful a couple of months ago.

Didn't get a wink of sleep that night . Diverted Juggernauts hurtling by made the bedroom window rattle .

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 8th September 2024 at 09:28

Just looks like a normal day on the M.6.

Comment by: The AA Man on 8th September 2024 at 11:27

There's nothing wrong with our British motorways, the problem is with the drivers who break the speed limit.
Also, the motorways weren't originally designed for drivers to be hopping on and off after just a few miles, the idea was for long-distance driving.
If you notice most accidents a
Involve joining and exiting traffic.

Looks like the way every road in and out of Standish looks now all, day and every day!!

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 8th September 2024 at 12:46

I agree AA Man, people getting on at one junction & off at the next are a pain.

Comment by: Mally D on 8th September 2024 at 12:58

If this was taken at the bridge on Miles Lane Shevington then yes, a lady jumped from that bridge a few weeks ago.

Comment by: Cyril on 8th September 2024 at 14:18

Mally D, I didn't hear about that, the poor woman must have been really bad and at her wits end to do that.
There should be more and especially urgent help for people with mental health problems, and less of the stigma, as no one makes fun of folks with bodily health problems.

Westwood Way link road - Railway Line
Atherleigh Way link road - Railway Line
Leigh to Manchester Guided Busway - Railway Line
A380 to St Helens link road - Railway Line
St Helens to M62 link road - Railway Line
M55 to Blackpool link road - Railway Line
A66 Penrith to Workington - Railway Line

Amongst many others.

Arthur is correct. But there needs to be more longer roads on the old railway track beds longer that 2 or 3 miles.

Most of the railway track beds have been given back to nature, there's some great walks around though.

Sir Bob is wrong.

That’s when we were coming back from Cornwall Cyril. I remember the driver saying the junctions between 27 and 29 were closed. He mentioned a very bad accident. Then he somehow went a different way to get off the motorway.
Very sad.

Comment by: Cyril on 9th September 2024 at 14:56

It is sad Veronica.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to Cornwall, it's been many years since we went down there and remember it being a long drive despite motorways.
Did you sample the locally made Tiddy Oggie?
I also remember every bakers shop saying that that theirs was the only ones made to the traditional recipe for Cornish Pasty, though the ones we tried from a couple of shops in different areas did taste the same, there's probably a factory in Truro churning out hundreds of pasties.

Mick I remember going to the Bull Ring in Birmingham 1968 that stretch of the M6 just opened delivering 5 ton of dripping then home being Aspull doing all mi housework having a hours kip and getting back to work at around 5pm and them saying you’ve been quick,no traffic in those days.

Comment by: Veronica on 9th September 2024 at 20:00

I did enjoy Cornwall - (St Mawes) thanks Cyril. I didn’t try the pasties as I have tasted them years ago and wasn’t impressed. I am more drawn to Scotland if I am honest. It’s 40 odd years since I had been there and it’s not as quaint I have to say.

St Ives and Penzance is best.
No need to go abroad for holiday, this Country is the best...

Comment by: Pie eater. on 10th September 2024 at 08:55

St Ives pasties the best.
(You only need one)

Comment by: Scots mist on 10th September 2024 at 10:05

Some parts of Scotland is nice but the weather isn't.

Comment by: John Noakes on 10th September 2024 at 23:14

Cyril, that "factory in Truro" churning out hundreds of Cornish pasties isn't just one factory, it's several. Ironically, they are in Devon.
