Millions of vehicles have past over this bridge and thousands have walked/rode under it This paddle boarder is enjoying the calm of the canal and i hope taking the scene on board

Another good one Mick. Paddle boarding is the latest thing ! Here , having no canals,we see them on the sea & down on the Broads. Not sure I would feel comfortable on one !

You wouldn't get me on one of them under that bridge.

I am always fascinated by the centuries of transport on view in just one small place, river , canal, railway and motorway plus the odd aircraft flying over

I wonder what the bargees of old would make of that pastime nowadays. They would probably shout “gerrout ‘road you varmint - look where yer gooin!”

Bridge, Water and Paddle Board.
One being the more recent main route North to South travelling at great speed, the other route East to West at a much slower pace from a bygone age.
Two modes of travel crossing paths in the modern age. I know which one I prefer.

Perfect timing again Mick

Helen of Troy, I take it that by saying "broads" you mean the Norfolk Broads? then you are wrong to say there is no canals, as there are miles of interconnecting canals, and paddleboarding on the broads is very popular.

Lady on a plank
Looking at the bank
She started with a kayak
But the rest of it sank
Now she’s in the middle
And in a mighty fiddle
She’s stuck out on the water
With no way to solve the riddle

Mick, in Abram this coming Sunday we remember the miners who died in The Maypole Pit Disaster and are allocated a miner to whom we each pay tribute by lighting a candle or a lamp in our window in their name. Last year I was allocated your relative James Byrne and I asked for him again this year but James's name had already been given to someone else, However, I will think of him when I light my lamp for the victims at ten past five next Sunday. Just wanted you to know that.

George in Hindley, I dont dispute that there are "canals" in the Broadland & they are man made but nothing like the wide canals system that covers central England & the North. Canals on the Broads were constructed to connect rivers that the sailing Wherries used to transport corn & such like from small towns to Norwich & eventually the Port of Yarmouth. I dont think there are any locks as the land is dead flat .
We recently walked along the Dilham & Walsham Canal....the only thing that looked canal like was a small bridge. I think its locally know as a 'cut' , ie a cut through.
We see many paddle boarders on Womach Staithe at Ludham where we often go..we even see them on the sea here where we live in Nth Norfolk.
PS I expect people know The Broads were formed by peat digging.

Mick once saw a wagon crash into the canal from the motorway bridge, he was on the canal bank, and he got the driver out of the cab, but he was already dead.
