I really can't understand why any private organisation would want to display a local authority's coat of arms as their own. It doesn't make sense.

Nothing like the sound of a Brass Band to stir the emotions !
The building reminds me of Mitchell St Chapel sadly gone.

"Home Sweet Home" seems a good description for today's p-a-d, Dennis; that certainly looks a homely place. I like the little added-on building to the left and can imagine it being a little kitchen of sorts....somewhere to make tea....although I'm just guessing at that as I don't know the place at all. But a nice photo.

So this is where they live . . I've seen them play a few times but never on home turf .
I had a bash on a cornet last week . How do they get a note from them ?
Nothing but air coming out the bell until I was blue in the face .
After learning you don't blow but rather vibrate the lips into the mouthpiece a sort of rasping flatulent noise ( I couldn't say note) emerged .
Admiration to all the wind players. .and Pem Brass are a splendid band. .
I saw them reduce a gruff tough as owd boots bloke to tears once playing 'Orange Juice' at the DW stadium .
' Music has charms to soothe a savage breast , ......'

Colin , did you get the Holst CD ?

A.school friend of mine had his own one man band.

It looks a smart building and well maintained. I don’t know why smaller windows were installed instead of keeping the windows the same. Perhaps it was too draughty when they were blowing their trumpets!

I first thought this was a church that used to be here on the main road up Pem, but I'm obviously wrong . Where was the westward , was that close to here ? Thanks for posting Dennis.

Well done to all involved in keeping the brass bands going, including the local sponsors.

They all deserve a BPB and Dennis of course for his interesting photographs.

Good picture Dennis.
Poet, yes thanks I did get the Holst CD, music to my ears. Love it but my wife is a little less appreciative. I think she prefers ABBA!!!!!

Brass Bands are a very important part of our heritage, I wish they performed more in the town centre, nothing agains the various performers we see through the week but as I say they are part of our heritage and identity.
Market Place would be a good spot every Saturday and would keep the pesky pigeons at bay. Bring out the deck chairs.

Do not wish to be pedantic but I have been trying to work out what the sign means but cannot. Why use the adjective “old”? Is there a distinction between old, new and just plain Wigan? There must be some reason.

A friend of mine used to play with this band in his youth in the early 70’s. A worthwhile thing to do. Wish I had learnt to play a musical instrument.

It's thank to Dave Whelan (Mr Wigan) that the band is still going

Wishing to be able to play a musical instrument is a good start Owd Reekie.

Time to get cracking. Give it a bash and keep at it.

You can do it.

Thank you for the free brass band info Rita.

May I add. Tickets are currently available for anyone interested in performances of 'Brassed Off' during September, at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton.

Thanks Rita, might not be able to make Haigh Hall but have put Mesnes Park in my diary.
Also I posted a recent picture of the Band Stand so it might appear before then to generate more interest.
