If Stan and Ollie bought one of those they would firstly fill it up with water to make sure it had no leaks . They sure would . Umph . That's sayternly a very good picture Dennis . Give your tie a twiddle .

Are they private moorings ? I have seen boats moored on the other side on my travels.

Perch in the twiggery. Well done Dennis.

What a lovely, heartening photo; it makes you think Summer is on the way. We used to have boats moored up along the canal in Abram and I used to love reading all their names as I passed by but there hardly seem to be any these days since The Dover Lock Pub became a ruin.

There must be something exciting happening because there’s a queue forming.
If Stan and Ollie had anything to do with the boats they’d be sunk at the end of day. Mm mmm….

A particularly lovely picture Dennis, well composed and captured on such a sunny day. We don’t get many of those!

Joan, I walked it down the hill from Skull House Lane to the canal. Half way down I found myself walking on tiptoe for fear that I might wake somebody up!
I fear that the excitement of the Duck Day Race may be too much for some of the locals.
I hope you have St John’s Ambulance on standby!

I would agree though, that there is some beautiful scenery around there.

Comment by: Joan on 26th April 2024 at 11:01

Not just St John's Ambulance Dennis, but the fire brigade as well, because they start off the ducks by squirting them with one their hoses.

I love canals & narrowboats Dennis & thats a really nice photo & I also love ' Wiggin Speak !
In the old fisherman's lifeboat shed where I volunteer there is a entry in a log book by the coxswain after a rescue....it is written as he spoke, in the Norfolk vernacular & it is totally readable by anyone from anywhere !

Irene I used to live on my boat in Abram, but it got to rough and I never felt safe being moored there so I move to Appley Bridge, that's my boat the green one, at the front on our private mooring.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 26th April 2024 at 15:45

It looks lovely, Capt. Birdseye, and so peaceful; I'm glad you've found somewhere so nice to stay. Do you think you could come back on the telly adverts instead of these depressing Cremation ones?.....it's no wonder we're all depressed these days....come back Captain Birdseye and Persil!

Irene, I have been up your way today to take some photos of Dover Lock. What a crying shame to see it in that condition. I was intending to do a Now and Then comparison with some photos that I took a few years ago when the pub was still in good condition.
I think I’ll do it anyway, it may be of some interest.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 26th April 2024 at 17:10

It's heartbreaking, Dennis. I love your before-and-after photos normally but the state of that building is heartbreaking. I'm just glad I remember it as it was. To be honest, in 50 years of living in Abram we have hardly ever been in either The Dover Lock or The Buck's Head, as we rarely go out, but The Dover was a lovely, picturesque pub even just to pass by on a Summer walk down the canal. I could weep when I see it now.

We are joined by a thread !

My lanky tongue , my journey song ,
the thread of where I came from ,
my puddles splash , sat on a broken building,
our smiles are real and true to feel
but what did we know , as we clabbered?
the black and white , that true was right ,
so true its meaning burns
Whenever voice I carry
will always be same
its core is born from Lanky
and its flow will never
never ever …… forget that name !
