Bark Hill Farm and Barn, Aspull

Bark Hill Farm and Barn, Aspull
Grade ll Listed and subject to a major renovation in 2012 the barn still has the original date stone of 1763 although these days it is hardly readable due to weathering.

Even this place has the dreaded potholes

Comment by: Aspuller on 20th April 2024 at 06:12

You'll only find beautiful properties like this in Aspull.
A beautiful place and a beautiful building.

What a lovely home. I can just see all my old-fashioned stuff in there!

Saw a sign at a farm that said "duck, eggs"
I was contemplating the use of the comma when it hit me.

Comment by: Posh Wiganer on 20th April 2024 at 09:13

I've got to agree Aspull and Haigh the best places to live in Wigan Borough :)

Comment by: Dek on 20th April 2024 at 09:38

I thought it was made into 2 or 3 houses?

Comment by: WN6 on 20th April 2024 at 11:05

Haigh is quite pretty, but I find Aspull a bit bleak, wind-swept and soulless, somewhere to quickly pass through.

Comment by: Elizabeth on 20th April 2024 at 11:07

Lovely ! I walk past here regularly, must agree,Aspull and Haigh are best areas around Wigsn and district.

Comment by: Sue on 20th April 2024 at 11:16

I don't know about it being a beautiful property to me it still looks like a old farm building.
If you want to see some beautiful barn conversions head to the west of Wigan .

Beautiful properties the
driveways let them down. I still wouldn’t mind living in one of them. The nicest and best building material there is in my view. The older the better for me. 1763 Wow!

Comment by: Elizabeth on 20th April 2024 at 13:24

Yes,me too Veronica,I love it.This side of Wigan much more quaint.

See we have the usual suspects extolling the virtues of Shangri- La Shevi

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th April 2024 at 13:33

Regardless of individual preferences of which area is best or worst, this group of buildings dating 1763 from has (in my humble opinion) been tastefully brought back to life from the semi-derelict state it was in and a credit to whom ever invested their time and money.
Dek, the once was barn could very well be 2 or three properties as there are three doors on the gable end.

Comment by: WN6 on 20th April 2024 at 14:04

WN2, you must be having a laugh.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th April 2024 at 14:23

Veronica, local stone when clean and bright is as nice and probably more durable than Cotswold stone.
It’s such a pity that the road through Spring View is so busy, many houses closer to the road are covered in grime. I am sure the residents do their best.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th April 2024 at 14:40

T.D. I don’t think many got your Yolk!
It made me chuckle.

Comment by: DTease on 20th April 2024 at 15:16

Colin, the ones who didn’t get the yolk would have.

Comment by: Jembo on 20th April 2024 at 15:39

Looks nice apart from the driveway. Needs some greenery / shrubbery too. Google street view shows it well - next to the Colliers Arms just over the humped canal bridge.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th April 2024 at 16:25

Colin, I have to agree about the houses in Spring View getting grubby with being so near to a main road....it's the same in Abram, and three rows of houses here, (including the one I live in), don't even have one of those little gardens between us and the road. We step straight from our front door onto the pavement and buses and lorries pass only a few feet away all day long....no wonder my windows are always mucky! Jean, where is the mention of Shangri-la Shevy? I must be skenning because I can't see it!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th April 2024 at 16:31

Jean, apologies....you must mean the comment on property "to the West of Wigan". I wouldn't have known Shevy was in the West of Wigan as I have no sense of direction, and only know compass points by "Never Eat Shredded Wheat" and "Naughty Elephants Squirt Water"....my apologies! (Never sit in a car with me and a map....I will have you completely lost in no time!). LOL xx

Comment by: Dave on 20th April 2024 at 19:25

The day I use Lol , is day you will find me in the Duggie , close to Shevvy and Gathurst . I know what both mean to me and- the Shangri- la I see belongs to someone who tells the whole WIgan story , not the only self called Mine!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th April 2024 at 20:13

I'm a bit lost with your comment, Dave, and appear to have annoyed you. I certainly didn't mean to. I don't like "LOL" myself really but Wigan World won't let you put a smiley-face emoticon on your comments and I just wanted Jean to know that I was just having a joke. I wish I could answer you further but am a bit lost as to what you mean with "someone who tells the whole Wigan story" and "not the only self called Mine". I am nowt and nobody, Dave. I live in the Wigan area and enjoy seeing the p-a-d and Album photos and helping out with information on them if I can, and having a laugh with the other commenters. I apologise if I have said something wrong.....I assure you it wasn't intentional. Irene. xx.

Comment by: Veronica on 20th April 2024 at 20:52

I must confess I don’t understand Dave’s comment ..I am completely lost. Ne- er mind North, South, East or West. I was wondering if he’s been at the Sherry. Sorry Dave.

Comment by: Jean on 21st April 2024 at 06:20

Yes Irene,that's fine,it is what I meant.i don't understand Dave's comment either !
