New Towpath
A nice complicated picture. I've always liked Mick's photos.
Tell me, are towpaths ever used for towing, these days ?
A good photo Mick & a busy one, lots going on.
Mick one of your best, love all your photos.
No Alan, long gone are the days when a horse would walk the towpath hauling a barge. Mainly for walkers & cyclists today.
Love walking from Gathurst to Burscough and back …a very picturesque part…the new path will be brilliant as it did get a little muddy on that early stretch….great work and great photo
What a hive of activity. Canals and towpaths are usually very peaceful places. I'm sure the walkers and cyclists will appreciate it when it's done.
Can we please use this photograph on our website.
How many aliases do you think he'll post today ? I make 3 already .
There are a few horse-drawn trip boats on the system - at Llangollen, for example. There are also enthusiasts who travel around the country to rallies etc. to keep the tradition alive. There's a record of a 2012 trip along the L&L which would have included going through Crooke, here:

You post some very interesting photos Mick. I agree with the Rev.

If the tow path isn’t used for towing it should be re- named.
How about Biker’s ‘n’ Boat’s Boulevard.??
Another belter mick lots going on, well captured.
Alan (Canada) there are boats which are still pulled by the horse, Mainly used by museums or tourist sites.
Dick Dastardly..patience is a virtue..there'll be more.

In order of doubt.
Shevy man?

What would YOUR list be?
I think that Mick should be our next Prime Minister.
There was a film on TPTV the other day entitled Painted Boats, about working canal boats being towed by horses during World War 2 and before Nationalisation. It featured a family living on a working canal boat, with the elders clinging on to the old ways of a being towed along by a horse, though in the end they had to go along with the flow.

There's nothing more satisfying and tranquil than a good walk up and down the canal in Summer.
Then and good glass of sherry to finish off the day.....Great.
This photo would make a great jigsaw..
Then a good glass of sherry.
Should have checked my wording.
Sorry.
Mick I've been told after the canal bank is done they are going to do some paths in Standish.
They are doing a good job.
This photo would make a great jigsaw..
Joan, it's car parks they need, not the paths doing.
