How rich those feelings we hold inside,
like warming toast by fireside,
however cold our memories glow,
days they pass, but return I go
to days I wandered in your space ,
from my heart , to upon your face..

e that’s beautiful.

That use to be a lovely park in the 1950s and 1960, full and I mean full of colourful plants. Still nice today but not like it was back then under Wigan Council. Spent many hours with my friends in the school holidays there, safe and friendly.

Nice aspect and nicely composed.

Snow does have a way of enhancing a photo…this view appears timeless. There’s a Victorian feel to it.
I can’t remember the date the park was created but it was and is a great asset to the town. More treasured in the past and appreciated than nowadays.

I think everyone in Wigan remembers going to the park as a child so we have to be very grateful..and Veronica,I have just read on Google that it was created in 1878... plus I once spoke to someone who had travelled around the world practically and said that there was no park as lovely as our Mesnes Park.

The park dates back to 1878.

Wigan Corporation and not Wigan Council as previously stated at 8.48.

Mick, the building to the left, what is it and what is it used for?

Comment by: Arthur on 20th March 2023 at 14:54

Is it Mesnes Park or as we say it Mains Park.

Comment by: Veronica on 20th March 2023 at 15:29

Thanks Maureen, I didn’t realise it was so far back in time. It will always be Wigan Park to me.

Comment by: Maureen on 20th March 2023 at 16:08

Me too Veronica.

Comment by: Garry on 20th March 2023 at 16:39

Good point Veronica, always be Wigan Park to me too.

Comment by: Pru on 20th March 2023 at 19:41

Sue it used to be a covered seating area.

Comment by: PeterP on 21st March 2023 at 06:13

Sue the building to the left was a toilet block but got shut down because of unsavoury people mainly men were using it for their activities. It was converted to a covered seating area. Not been to the park for a couple of years so do not know if it still used has a seating area.

Thank you Pru and PeterP.

Picture spoiled by the photographers signature. Such things really annoy me. Logos on TV, or what are really known as DOGS. Why do they pollute the screen with such graffiti?
