Kirkless Hall
Mick, that's not Kirkless Hall, it's the Kirkless Hall Inn.
Kirkless Hall is about a quarter of a mile away, further down the canal towards Ince.
I believe it's got new Asian owners, the change of colour looks nice as well.
I bet it will be popular with boat owners.
Whats that all about next to it a shop in a concrete building, how sad and pathetic, i am shure they cant be that desperate to have a shop like that, mind you todays society anything people will do.
The shop is what is known as a pop up shop, good for the locals who have just run out of something for their tea, and good for the canal boaters who will be able to email an order that they can collect as they pass by.
Love the new colour reminds me of the Cotswold's
Maybe the shop is to catch custom from holiday boats, there are houses close by as well.
I prefer the lighter paint colour.
Good luck to the people who are trying to to make a go of things. Some people moan about owt.
The shop wouldn't survive if it relied on passing boaters for business - the flight is usually closed in the winter, and was closed for most of last summer, and, even with volunteers to assist, its 21 locks are a daunting prospect, so it's not the most popular route.
Some of you may remember that on that housing estate, which is adjacent to the Kirkless Hall pub, there was once a parade of shops, on Anderton Way, and the shops comprised of a supermarket, newsagents, a chip shop, a betting shop, and some other shops, but over time those shops closed, because they had suffered from a lot of anti-social behaviour, and they were demolished in 2014.
Bonus video, Mr B back in Wigan, he is telling folk all about the John Pit Memorial.

its not just boaters Rev you have walkers, and plenty of bikers who would stop for an ice cream and a mars bar if the know there's a shop open.
Hasn't it been converted into flats? I'm sure I read somewhere it had.
