As I have said, I love to see old photos of Scholes but didn't know it well. However, I can remember Greenough Street from when my schoolfriend and I used walk with her Dad from Ince to watch the rugby at Central Park on Saturday afternoons in the mid-1960s. The shops and houses are just a vague memory, as, (thankfully!), are some rather smelly men's toilets that I recall passing! But I remember it enough to know that it looks very different now.

Thanks PeterP.....
Seems The Hole is a waste of money & space when you hear about the plight many people are in.

Mick, and Ozy - the tree must have fallen across Almond Brook Road overnight - it's practically all been cleared away now. Apart from massive lumps of the trunk I don't think there's anything being left on site - small stuff has been loaded onto a trailer and a small truck.

It’s like a foreign land now to me. The only building is the Balcarres
that’s left standing. It’s now just a thoroughfare to the town. Whereas it was a very busy Main Street with lots of shops and pubs full of character. Mind you the town centre is going the same way….

Thanks for the info and the update … and this may sound like sour grapes , but there’s no way I’m shifting from in front of the fire on a day like today anyway … I’d need to be really desperate , and fortunately , desperate I am not .
But thanks anyway , and
let me know if one comes down in July Michael .

Thanks for the info Rev.
I would have seen that tree from the playground when I was at St Maries school
