Photo-a-Day (Thursday, 12th January, 2023)
Different
Very different to what it used to be.
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX500)
Vauxhall road home of the Paradise Club and the hangout of the Macfarlane bully boys.
Dennis, a complete makeover.
Good one, Dennis. Would the Flamingo Club have been near there? Some friends of mine were discussing it on Facebook the other day and it sounded as if it were not far from Vauxhall Road. . I wish we could have had a "before-and-after" view of this scene....I know you often do that if you have the original photo available.
My apologies......it was "The Paradise Club" my facebook friends were discussing the other day, not "The Flamingo Club".....I think The Flamingo was a pub. My mistake.
The Harp was just where the the Street sign was. The Flamingo is just set back you can see the edge of it Irene. The Paradise didn’t ‘reign ‘ all that long at the Stocking Factory. People were ‘up in arms’ against it as you would imagine in a close knit community. But that was solved when all that side off Vauxhall Rd was demolished.
I saw Brian Poole and his Tremeloes at the Paradise club
No character anymore Scholes, it's lost it's identity for me.
You tell me this better ?
A fool I am to doubt .
The buildings are much cleaner ,
no pitmen left about .
The Bone man’s now a picture .
The chimney stacks a time ,
when the song of mill girls natter ,
was a held I know was mine ..
How rich you see this progress .
How sweet you taste its wine .
I hope it stays within you ,
like a song you loved sometime ....
I love your poem, "e", especially the line "like a song you loved sometime". I would have loved to have known the old Scholes.
e that is beautiful.
'e'...I wish I had a book full of your poems..the Platt Lane one was very moving.
My grandparents lived in Vauxhall Road. I would love to see an old photo.
e, or Maureen, is the Platt Lane poem on a past photo-a-day? If so, what date please?
Irene, yes it is,it's just three days ago the 9th...I love it.
Thankyou Maureen. xx
