It’s not Christmas on the Rhine - but I suppose with the utilities crisis it’s all we can expect.

More like the Trencherfield Mill and the Grassed area opposite the pier area. Went on the Kittiwake barge a few years ago for a works do Wigan Pier to Crooke It was that cold they had to do a trial run to break the ice on the canal and there was ice inside the windows of the barge

Peter, if you do some research you will find that the grassed area on the photo is where the so-called Wigan Pier was located.

Nice and positive Veronica.....bet that stretch of canal is full of rubbish and shopping trollies, eh?

No doubt, no doubt Gareth…

No it's definitely not the Rhine, it's good old lovely Wigan.
I've been on a few river cruises in Europe including the Rhine and I still prefer our canals, we have very good friends who own a boat and we have boating trips with them every year.

Dust crêpes with powdered sugar, then (i) pile up crêpes on head of canalside statue, (ii) frisbee the crêpes into canal or (iii) find a hedge to stuff crêpes into.

Gareth Cheetham canal in Wigan same as canal in Amsterdam, full of stolen bikes and spliff ends, also now full of crêpes.

Another waste of council tax payers money if you ask me .

If I want to see lights , I only have to open the door on the AGA and watch the sparks flirting out onto the rug , or pull back the curtains and watch the ambulances go weeh - waahing past every five minutes .
And what’s more , I don’t have to buy a ticket for those events .

And before anyone beats me to it …

… Yeah ! … I do realise that I’m a miserable owd git , but I’m not that daft as to trudge down to Pottery road to look at half a dozen light bulbs ; I’ve seen loads of light bulbs in my time … I’m looking at one at this very moment in fact .

Blimey ! I reckon I’ve probably been and gone and done it now …
I’m wondering if that comment could be construed as being negative or not ?

?????????????

Ah well ! It looks like being another sleepless night for me again tonight then .

When the barges have left and the hot dog van has pulled down it's shutters, Trencherfield Mill will still be there presiding over Wigan Pier. Hopefully for many years to come.

Danny, many people who know me think I am full of crêpes.....at least I think that's what they say....

Wigan have a great towpath along there stretch of the Leeds to Liverpool and the Leigh branch for cycling it’s a pity Parbold and Adlington aren’t the same.

Ozy surely you cannot be the same Ozy I new from Cale Lane and did driving for guys that had holidays on concrete wagons?

Bargee the grass area would just about hold a tippler. What the bent rails opposite the pier are for but do not even represent anything to do with a tippler.?
