Well if any councilor dies during a meeting, they won't have far to take he/she.

Is it still open for business? It’s in good company if it’s closed down. Not many town halls are open these days. The question is what will be done with them.?

It unusual to see a monochome photo these days. I am no expert but think the images look sharper in ' black & White ' colour draws you eye to a dominant colour....like that big red square in yesterdays photo.
Nice one Dennis.

That's lovely, Dennis. I love black and white photos. I often have a walk round Abram Churchyard as it is a place I feel comfortable to visit alone, especially on a sunny day, being next to busy Warrington Road; there are always cars passing, and I don't feel uneasy as I do in Ince , Wigan , or Westwood cemeteries, which are more isolated. That scene is very familiar to me, with what used to be the Council Offices, (now flats), ... I used to wheel my children there in their prams to pay the rates, and the "Top Shop" to the right of the photo. Out of sight of the camera is the part of the churchyard that holds the more recent graves, and I was once visiting a grave there when I hear a loud snoring noise, but there was no sign of anyone about. I was just about to run for it when a horse bobbed its head up over the boundary wall from the field adjoining the churchyard....I felt such a fool!

Neigh, neigh,neigh Irene

Good to see you back, Aubrey! Just imagine if it had spoken, like Mr Ed! Or if it had started singing "A horse is a horse, of course, of course". (showing my age now!)

Comment by: Veronica on 16th October 2022 at 10:38

That was funny Irene,
I would have took flight with fright!

We have relatives in St Johns.

I'll bet the horse had a big grin too Irene, it's the sort of lark that I'd have got up to when young, Mr Ed as I remember was great viewing along with The Addams Family and The Munsters too, a pity they wasn't filmed in colour as I'm sure they would still be shown today.
It'd be getting a little hoarse after thrice neighing Aubrey - good to see you posting again.

The leaning cross on the four plinths next to the path would have been tipped over by the health and safety wallahs in some graveyards.

Missing photographs, did anyone else see two new photos earlier this afternoon that had been posted on the Album? I can't remember now what the first one was, but I looked at the second one which was by Mick and was of the canal bridge at Gathurst and taken from the Appley Bridge side of the canal, it showed two trees growing in the stonework and I was going to post a comment but decided to look at today's PaD and do the comment later, when I went back to the Album the two photos had gone, it has baffled me all day and I've kept looking to see if the photos had reappeared, but no, it's left me wondering if I'd imagined those photos?

At the top right hand side is the monument to the Miners who died in the pit disaster.

Cyril I think its because the rules say old photos only.

Strangely, a similar thing occurred to me quite recently Cyril .
I vividly recall being woken from my slumbers by Melanie Lewis McDonald saying my breakfast was going cold .
I said “ put it into the microwave for a couple of minutes then my dearest until I recover from the effects of the Pinot Noir “ .
When I awoke a few minutes later however , there was no sign of Melanie , …my breakfast either,… just half of a cold pork pie from last Thursday with a bit of fur growing on top of it .

I’m mystified,…do you suppose I could have dreamt the whole thing ?

Comment by: Veronica on 16th October 2022 at 22:36

Well Cyril that’s strange if those two photos were ‘ cancelled’ and Ozy’s photo of Golden Boy Donny knocked off his perch is still in situ on Album. Would that be because it’s an ‘old’ wagon from the past I wonder…? It is a mystery I admit.

I’ve gone off microwaves I have, yesterday I put some soup in one of those plastic mugs with a vent hole on top, stuck it in the machine and then retired to the living room to finish off my Sudoku. Two minutes later there came the sound of a thud from the kitchen and the light shade did a sudden shimmy round the lightbulb. I made my way back to the kitchen to check and everything seemed OK, so I let the thing run on until the final ping. Upon opening the door I found the mug was now upside down, the lid was missing and the entire inside had been pebble dashed in a delicate shade of Heinz Scotch Broth.
It took me an hour and half to clean up the mess.
I’ve gone off Heinz Scotch Broth I have.

Ozy, it won't be the effect of a mouldy pork pie as I don't eat them nor these days imbibe alcohol, they also said the same thing happened after eating green cheese or those other strange toadstools neither of which I also don't imbibe of. I've just googled Melanie Lewis McDonald and can't say I know her, though I do remember the comedienne and singer Aimi Macdonald.

Maybe as Mick says with posting them, they were probably taken off with being new, or maybe that half of the bridge is West Lancs?

Veronica, Golden Titan Boy is probably now outside that far eastern woman's tanning shop in Leigh, Thai Tan Tastic - get an all over glow.

Cyril Ive sent in another photo, this one is of our old Queen books of condolence in Wigan parish church

I am very surprised at you Dtease I thought you would only eat best homemade soup, like I make it. Chuck all your veg in its better than any bought soup. But I understand because I only buy Oven chips. I can see where you’re coming from. Maybe that’s why the microwave protested. ;o))

I’m not clever enough to post links Cyril , but if you check out ELO
( live at Wembley stadium ) on YouTube, she’s a vocalist on many if not all of the numbers … that’s when she’s not slaving over the AGA doing bacon , egg and beans for me of course .
