Seems a shame to leave an old building in that state. Wonder who owns it ? If it was somewhere else it might get a bit of TLC & have a useful purpose.

Comment by: Cyril on 6th September 2022 at 11:22

If I remember correctly this is down by the Canal & River Trust offices, formerly British Waterways at Pottery Road, besides these stables probably once used by bargees horses there was also washrooms and taps for freshwater, I'm sure there was also a small chandlers and a provisions store also for the bargees and later narrowboat users. The house alongside the canal there was also lived in by a keeper, no idea if that is still the case as the stable block looks to be boarded up and alarmed to stop vandalism or intruders, and I'd imagine the buildings around here if it was possible could tell quite a few tales of past events.

This mornings photo is like I remember Wigan in the 60s and 70s
Cobbles, Crumbling Old Farm Building, and Neglected Houses.

good old days, It can be more interesting when the dollies and mollies don't comment, I dont think they realize that these Photos and their comments will be on Wiganworld for ever, has will the photographers name, well done Mick.

Hey up . He's talking to himself again .

Comment by: Cyril on 6th September 2022 at 13:52

Alice, I and many others too I'm sure believe that comments should be welcomed from all - positive or negative. Yes it is the photo and all the different comments from folks, whether they be Mollies, Dollies, Joe Soap or even Uncle Tom Cobley and all, that make these pages of photos interesting to look at and to read, and I'm sure that they'll be just as interesting to folks in the future too.

Comment by: Dolly and Molly on 6th September 2022 at 14:38

We Dollies and Mollies would give that comment an answer if it was worth one, Mick, (alias Alice). You must really be Alice in Wonderland if you think we don't know it's you. And we Dollies and Mollies have every right to comment "has well".

Comment by: Veronica on 6th September 2022 at 14:53

I should imagine that goes for the Crackpot’s comments as well and we all know who he is!

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 6th September 2022 at 16:02

A CRT man once told me that after they stopped the horses pulling the barges, the stable was used by a rag and bone man to stable his horse.

Comment by: Fred on 6th September 2022 at 16:25

A pity the mill gets in the way, the stables would look much better, and the mill on its own makes a good photo, shame you couldn't stand a little farther back too.

I hope he isn’t going around in long skirt! Imagine that getting caught up in the wheels…

Comment by: Wiganer on 6th September 2022 at 17:35

My main reason for typing words here is to say thank you for sharing the photograph with us.
It is certainly nice to know that some people are willing to take the time to go out there to areas and photograph something which they think is interesting enough to share with other people.
The above photograph is only one of many which Mick has uploaded for us to view.
I would like to take this opportunity to show some appreciation and to tell Mick that some of us wish you much success in finding more interesting buildings, landscapes et al to photograph.
Keep on doing what you are doing.

Wiganer, Mick has posted some very good photos, some "middling" photos and some uninteresting photos. His trouble is that he makes personal remarks about people but can't take the flack back. I have stuck up many times for Mick in the past when I have felt he was in the right but enough is enough. He is now hiding behind false names to make those remarks. Yes, I posted under the name "Dolly and Molly" earlier, but everyone, including Mick, knows it was me. He has recently called me "Miss Grammar School Knickers" on The Album, which would have made me laugh had he posted it under his own name, but he hid behind someone else's name which is cowardly. Yes, I can spell and I am good at grammar, but I can't add up, I can't drive a car and I can't even change a plug. We all have our strengths and our weaknesses. I would NEVER normally comment on someone's spelling or grammar but he asks for it. I'm glad you like Mick's photos, I like some of them too, if he would let me do so.

Mick has posted some very good photos, some "middling" photos and some uninteresting photos.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Irene, can you give me some advice on how I can improve them.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th September 2022 at 08:15

Even the professionals don’t expect favourable comments every time. It all depends on the interest in the photo.
Even Dave ‘Oy’ was slated to the point he doesn’t post anymore. To me that was really unfair his photos were a great addition on here.
None of can reach perfection every time whatever the craft is.

Comment by: irene roberts on 7th September 2022 at 09:45

What annoyed me today is that neither Veronica or myself had commented on today's photo at all, so there was no need for our names to be mentioned, but ,whilst hiding behind someone else's name, you let it be known that photo-a-day was more interesting without us "dollies and mollies" commenting, (please don't insult my intelligence by pretending that it wasn't you who said that ). No, I can't advise you on photography....I am no photographer...I don''t even possess a camera, but I love looking at p-a-d photos, including yours. Like every photographer on here, some of your photos are better than others. There was one of yours last month of "Billinge Hill Tree" that someone (not me!), commented was the worst photo that had ever been on p-a-d...... I can't recall you having a go at HIM! As Veronica rightly says, other photographers on here don't expect constant praise, or for their photos to appeal to everyone, and the subjects photographed on here interest some people more than others. Some just invite an "oh that's nice" reaction and some trigger memories that we want to share with other viewers. If you want to take my comment about the diversity of your photos personally, then go ahead, but I have never once pulled anyone's photos to bits. If I particularly don't like a photo I would rather keep quiet than add a derogatory remark. Any arguments with you on p-a-d have been about the personal comments you make about me, not about the photographs.

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 7th September 2022 at 14:17

Irene love, if you look back you will see that the person saying, this is one of the worst photos i have seen on here, is that new boy with the name of fred.
And by now you should know that I never communicate with people who just appear and start making comments, so this is the reason you wont have seen any comments from me, I also block people who are always having a dig, and those that send private messages to one another.

Comment by: irene roberts on 7th September 2022 at 15:30

I am a bit lost with your comment above, Mick. I wouldn't even know how to block people and have no wish to do so; I am no expert with technology. I also have no wish to fall out with anyone but if I feel I am wronged I will stand up and say so, as surely anyone would? And I like to know who I am talking to because to use another person's name. especially when making derogatory comments, can cause untold problems.....innocent people get blamed for things they haven't said. If I think a person is in the wrong I will say so, and if I think a person is right I will stick up for them, no matter what has occurred between myself and that person in the past. I know a couple of people on p-a-d personally....the rest I have never met, but I enjoy talking to them and look forward to their comments. Irene.

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 7th September 2022 at 18:52

Irene my way of blocking people is by just ignoring them, this is what I did month ago with your mate, when she accused me of being jealous of other peoples photos.
Now the same woman a couple of days ago wrote this about me,
I hope he isn’t going around in long skirt! Imagine that getting caught up in the wheel

Comment by: Veronica on 7th September 2022 at 20:02

Grow up!!

Comment by: irene roberts on 7th September 2022 at 20:48

You obviously mean Veronica, who is a dear friend of mine. The comment she made regarding you going around in a skirt is because you were using a woman's name....Abram Alice... on your posts, If you had used your own name, "Mick", that wouldn't have happened. Just be yourself, Mick, and allow people to have an opinion on your photos and other people's, even if that opinion is not the same as yours. We all see things differently and have the right to do so, Veronica and myself included.

Comment by: Veronica on 7th September 2022 at 23:20

Thank you Irene, but I fear reasoning is lost on him!
He’s obviously taking note even though he’s ‘ignoring’/‘blocking’ me, so that’s ok then…aren’t I the lucky one!

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 8th September 2022 at 07:55

Irene she is as much a dear friend to you as you said Pam Shaw was.
Ive seen some of the comments this Alice puts on and I think the woman comes over as a pensioner, so I dont think she will be riding a bike with a long skirt on.
Yes we all see things differently and have different views, I had one when I said Oy shouldn't be allowed to put on his own photos on PADS because when that happens somebody's else photo get pushed back down the page, maybe this is what happened to you very good friend, Geoff photo that never appeared and because I pointed this out I was attacked from lots of people who contribute nowt to PAD, and your dear friend was the main one, and this is the reason she got put on my ignore list.

Comment by: Veronica on 8th September 2022 at 08:43

No but you were using the name of Alice…
( which was brought to my attention) I was not the main one who was complaining about you. If you look back there were many who did, so much so they have all disappeared and don’t even comment any longer. That’s why you are using me as a scapegoat. You are not the ‘top gun’ on this site as you seem to think you are. There’s quite a few on here who would agree. As I said You need to grow up..

Comment by: Abram Alice on 8th September 2022 at 18:35

I would just like to say my name is Alice,  I was born in Abram and lived there until I went into the forces.
I've no idea who this mick is who it seems to be being accused of being me.

Comment by: Veronica on 9th September 2022 at 11:48

Don’t worry yourself Alice .. just keep your eye on your own comments.

That old stable and piece of land was up for auction a couple of months ago at a good price.
