Abram Bridge
Photo: Mick Byrne (Panasonic DMC-TZ100)
Did someone read it for you Mick?
How’s life daen saarf Mick, have you tried the jellied eels yet? Not as good as an upside down Wigan pie I’ll bet! Are the natives friendly? Have you seen any with bones through their noses yet?
Tek care owd lad, we are all missing you up here. P.S. Send us a postcard of your house so we can see it from here.
Regards DTease.
The "ABRAM" sign was actually the sign that was on a post by the side of the road as you approach Abram from Golborne until we all got those fancy signs with the pictures on denoting what our towns/villages were known for, (which I must admit I like). I belonged to Abram Community Link at the time and it was decided by the group that we didn't want the old sign just scrapped so it was transferred to the canal bridge.
I wonder how many kids have crossed on that pipe for a dare ? Probably none in the last 40 years .
Is Mick as reluctant to leave the north as a polar bear or is this , judging by the trees , an old photo ?
Irene that was a good idea by the group to reuse the sign, a pity other districts through where the canal runs hadn't done the same with their old signs.
I wonder what happened to all those purpley /greyish street signs with letters that stood out in black - I don’t know if they were made out of slate, stone or even lead. There was certainly no expense spared.
DTease and Poet you do make me chuckle.
I wonder if he’s took a vow of silence…or is he ghosting again….these photos look like they’re from another age!
This is not the Leeds Liverpool canal.
Wonder if he wrote ABRAM (Alice) RULES OK on the bridge wall Veronica, can't make out what the writing lower down says, maybe MUFC as that was always plastered over walls at one time
Veronica: Some one ghosting again, but on this subject, who ever it is they are correct, D Tease & Poet do make me chuckle on occasions.
Nethen Véronique …..
As I was in the normal process of meandering aimlessly through my own personal “ Côtes du Rhône Villages induced world of Gurney Slade , in search of the unattainable, I just innocently happened upon your above post.
Which prompted me to ponder whether or not the word “ took “ may well be better transposed with the word “ taken “.
I feel reasonably , if mistakenly confident that you won’t take offence at my intrusion.
After all, as we all know, ( or should know at the very least ), the English language is under constant attack from all sides. ( Uncle Sam’s fair land featuring prominently as an assailant ), and someone therefore has to man the ramparts.
So, consider yourself to be suitably chastised , and if I say that I consider it most unlikely that this post will be published, you may remain confident that it will be.
That’s what usually happens anyway.
But rest assured, I’ll be keeping an eye on you over the coming weeks.
I’m watching you Veebs.
Regards. Ozy.
Which canal is it then. Abram Alice? The Bridgewater?
Ah knows Ozy things are
Slippin….. It’s not good enough … I must try better…anyway up Ahm gooin watchin’ Sherwood ont iplayer
It’s the Leigh branch of the Leeds - Liverpool canal Irene, which butts up to the Bridgewater canal at the St. Helens road bridge in Leigh.
