Churchyard
Lovely pic of those beautiful buildings Dennis they hold so many memories, and full credit to the council for keeping them gardens in good condition as they get abused by alcoholics and drug users, not to mention youths who are determined to destroy our nice peaceful areas.
Another really good photo Dennis & what a wonderful row that red brick building is. Are they to do with the church or maybe they are Alms houses ?
But....planners just can't seem to get it right. What is the square box behind with all the masts on top ??
I remember working in the end office on the left of the Family Court building 35 yrs ago. (Middle storey) the Court isn’t in the building anymore though. I used to sit on one of those benches eating my sandwiches at dinner time.
Another great photo, the old court buildings.
Helen. they were the old Wigan Courts. They are still in use, (at least in parts), but no longer for Court business. There is a new Court house near to Harrogate Street/ Darlington Street. I'm not quite sure what the square box building is! Lovely photo, Dennis. It is such a peaceful spot but sadly attacts druggies.
Another excellent photograph Dennis , some fine workmanship in those buildings.
Lancashire Constabulary, I was a shorthand typist there in the 60’s.
Couldn't a CCT camera or two be installed ? I expect Wigan is the same as here in Nth Norfolk....you never see a policeman unless he is in a police car & the nearest police station now is at least 30mins drive away.....the one at Cromer doesn't admit the public or take calls. What a state of affairs !
I used to sit in the gardens there with my boyfriend every Saturday afternoon after a trip round town when I was a teenager...lovely carefree days.
Helen and Irene if no one has already said so, the building with the masts is the telephone exchange.
The Old Courts are now a Multi Arts Centre. https://www.theoldcourts.com/
CCTV cameras were installed following the murder in the gardens a few years ago.
The square box is the old telephone exchange building.
