New Year Gate-crasher

New Year Gate-crasher
St Marie’s in Standish on New Year’s Day - the gate posts have been struck by cars running out of road a number of times in recent years.

I saw this yesterday, I think the increase in crashes on the corner is due to drivers leaving Alberts

How come they run out of road ? It seems wide enough to me & the gates are not near the kerb. Wouldnt want to be standing there when there are idiots driving cars !

The last time I passed by the church those new buildings weren't there. There's always idiots on the road.

It is probably caused by those drivers rushing to escape Standish and reach the delights of Shevington.

HELEN, the church is on a bend in the road. The 'affected' gate post hasn't long since been re - erected after a previous similar incident.

I don't think this is a particularly tight bend . There doesn't seem to be a problem coming the other way , possibly because the traffic moves quite slowly in that direction . Going up School Lane however , impatient motorists , after ' straining like greyhounds in the slips ' through two sets of lights , suddenly let loose and if unfamiliar with the oncoming bend , run out of road , as David says .
I'm not making any excuse for these clowns but perhaps a speed camera would make them less clownish .

We keep seeing this. Speed camera required opposite the vets pointing towards the church. Would raise some revenue too.

If this mess was in Shangri La Shevington the Parish Council would have a fit.
I reckon it would be an act of neighbourly friendship if they sent Mick round on his bike to patrol the area. He would be perfectly safe with a flashing blue light on top of his cycling helmet.

It seems to be happening more frequently since the asylum seekers came to the Britannia Hotel.

Comment by: WN1 Standisher on 5th January 2022 at 12:58

Who pays for the damage ? car drivers insurance ( presuming they hung around ), or Church funds. Either way I bet St Maries are sick of having this wall rebuilt.

Dtease I am in stitches here! I can just imagine the scene ... Mr Pastry with a blue light flashing..Ructions in Shevvy La

See PaD 14th December 2018 for more buffoonery at this spot .

I know the asylum seekers get a bad rep Mick, but I don't think they've moved onto robbing cars yet. This collision happened heading back towards the Britannia, perhaps they were late back for supper !!

Comment by: Edna on 5th January 2022 at 14:11

If its happened so often, why are there no cameras up.They seem to put them were there not needed.

Comment by: Joan on 5th January 2022 at 15:32

Ive spoken to Mick today and he said the post at 12:31 about asylum seekers from the Britannia Hotel is not from him

Veronica, all the kids would be calling him Nick, Nick, Mick, Mick.
